I could make a crumble but thinking of trying something different. I am not a natural baker so something easy please!

Jam

TheFlis · 03/10/2024 14:16

Agree with previous poster, plums have a lot of natural pectin so are really easy to make jam with.

ThePlumsOfWilfred · 03/10/2024 14:16

Plum jam...... mmmmmmmmmmmm

Elderberrier · 03/10/2024 14:19

Yes jam, or a quick google this one stands out to me www.daringgourmet.com/french-almond-plum-cake/#recipe

TomatoSandwiches · 03/10/2024 14:20

Jam baby.... make some jam.

Beamur · 03/10/2024 14:22

Plum jam is the best. But maybe something like a plum clafoutis for a pudding. Very easy.

Musicaltheatremum · 03/10/2024 14:22

Ooh thank you for reminding me to get plums out for a crumble later!

fluffiphlox · 03/10/2024 14:22

Years ago on here someone asked this question about mangoes (I think). One response was ‘Juggle!’ , after which it all kicked off.

Anyway, jam.

Ilovemyshed · 03/10/2024 14:24

Chutney - Delia has a good recipe

StrongFemaleCharacter · 03/10/2024 14:30

I don't have any jam jars though 🙁

You could order some on Amazon?

TheSandgroper · 03/10/2024 14:35

Poach some plums, into a dish and meringue on top. Plums always give pink-red juice so when you put your spoon through the meringue and the pink juice spills out over, it looks so, so gorgeous.

Or plum paste, ready for Christmas.

Calliopespa · 03/10/2024 14:37

I’m not a great fan of plum jam but would walk over broken glass for a helping of prunes preserved in Armagnac.

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 03/10/2024 14:45

Nigella's baked wine-spiced plums with Barbados cream.
I have taken serious liberties with this recipe (not least refusing to add the spices suggested) and it always works.
Or jam!

workplaceshenanigans · 03/10/2024 14:47

Plum duff.

StrongFemaleCharacter · 03/10/2024 14:50

I've asked in my WA groups if anyone has any jam jars!

Plum cobbler

mumonthehill · 03/10/2024 14:57

Spiced plum rum ideal for Christmas. Kilner jar, put in some plums, sugar, cinnamon sticks, star anise, pour over the rum and leave for a month or two.

You could plum someone's house... 😆🫐

"All over this... plumming on here, plumming on that... plum the sofa... there's nothing here that hasn't been plummed... Plumming someone's house is one of the most disrespectful things you can do."

Lifestooshort71 · 03/10/2024 15:23

I gently stew them with a small amount of water, brown sugar, piece of orange peel and cinnamon sticks. When soft but still holding shape, drain and slightly thicken juice with some cornflour paste. We eat it as it is, warmed in microwave with custard or with a piece of cooked puff pastry on top, freeze in bags for during the winter.

StrongFemaleCharacter · 03/10/2024 15:42

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I have remembered I have a couple of kilner jars in the dresser so am currently making a batch of Small batch plum quick jam (sugarsalted.com). The rest are in the freezer.

@mumonthehill - plum rum sounds amazing!

Plum pie, with hot custard....Divine!

Poached spiced plums with cold custard, yoghurt or ice cream.

Pickled plums ready for Christmas, delicious with game pie or any charcuterie.

Plum clafoutis served with clotted cream.....Sublime!

Polish plum dumplings are really nice. I'm not sure how to put links up but you can find plenty of recipes and how to make them online.
