Baked treats for a coffee morning

If you were attending a fundraising coffee morning, what item(s) would you most like to have with your hot beverage?

I'm a competent baker but a bit bored with the usual suspects - lemon drizzle cake, carrot cake, chocolate brownies which is too rich for the morning anyway.

Thanks.

Breakfast muffins
Or some thing savoury

Synergies · 04/06/2024 21:08

Madeleines are easy and fun to make if you get the special tray moulds.

Mini muffins are also good.

Or even some nice shortcake biscuits.

Jammy dodgers, angel cake slices, a coffee renoir, shortbread, Madelines, macaroons and so many more!

I make these for work. Last time I made 100 and they were gone in 20 mins Blush they're like a cross between a hobnob and a flapjack

I’m totally obsessed with these walnut miso cookies at the moment. I’d at least halve the size of the balls and probably even quarter them, but they are wonderful.

Rhubarb and custard cake
Lemon and raspberry cake
Lemon and blueberry cake
Mango cake
Walnut cake
coffee and walnut cake
mini muffins
scones- think plain, cheese, raisin, bacon and chive, cranberry and walnut etc
Danish- think cinnamon swirls, pain aux raisins, croissants, or any other breakfast style pastry
Some mini millionaire shortbread
Lemon biscuits
Chocolate chip cookies
Oat and raisin cookies

Mini coffee eclairs. Can't buy them anywhere.

Fruit cake or bara brith
Flapjack
Oat and raisin cookies
Tahini cookies
Cinnamon swirl

I like tray bake with fruits and something almondy. I also don’t like over pretty things with a lot of icing or buttercream on top. Obviously cakes should have buttercream in between layers but some people are putting enormous amount of buttercream on cupcakes.
Scones with something different are good e.g lemon and blueberries or dates and nuts.

Outlookmainlyfair · 04/06/2024 21:27

Babka or friands?

rainbowunicorn · 04/06/2024 21:28

Honestly, I would always choose a scone or something like a buttered scotch pancake, maybe a piece of malt loaf or light fruit cake. Not a fan of things with lots of icing

pizzaHeart · 04/06/2024 21:39

I also like to buy something for DH and DD so for this purpose tray bakes, biscuits, scones are really good as they are easy to transport.

Are the baked items to be sold as part of the fundraising event, or just eaten whilst people attend a fundraising event? I'd make different things. These are things I'd like to eat 😋

These dipped or drizzled with chocolate. https://www.taste.com.au/recipes/anzac-biscuits-2/8373f5a9-f47a-43b5-837e-8c32cc33f558

Edited

The coffee morning itself is the fundraising event. Cake and drink, donate, natter or browse the second hand uniform, that kind of thing.

It's a church coffee morning that dd's dance club is hosting this weekend to raise funds towards the cost of an end of year event. The church gets a percentage of donations for letting groups use the premises.

I do love a lemon tart.... preferably with a few raspberries on top.

Or a burnt basque cheesecake with a berry compote might be nice

Or a Viennese biscuit

P0mbears · 04/06/2024 21:56

Pastel del Nata blondies - have a look at Crystelle Pereira on Instagram. Lovely and indulgent but still "breakfasty"

minipie · 04/06/2024 21:59

Sounds like you want things easy to eat while walking around? So that points to biscuits, pastries/buns, firmer traybakes/cakes, rather than anything too crumbly or needing a fork. And no piled on icing.

Like the suggestions above of fruit & almond traybake and Anzac biscuits. Miso walnut biscuits sound amazing

minipie · 04/06/2024 22:00

Honestly though I’d pick things you know you can do a really good job of! I’d rather have a “usual suspect” but an excellent version, than something fancier which hasn’t gone quite right (apologies if everything you bake goes right, not the case for me!)

There will be seating and tables too.

I'm not after fancy, just something that people will like and that I won't get loads of leftovers of.

Lemon drizzle is one of those that dh seem to bring back most times when he runs one with Scouts.

FusionChefGeoff · 04/06/2024 22:08

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/06/2024 22:14
