I'm unwell - what's your "sick" dish?

Just that - what do you make when your throat is sore from coughing and you're low on energy?
I've been on porridge and soup for a week....Still no appetite, which is deeply unlike me.

Chicken, cauliflower cheese and mashed potatoes.

Preachingtotheconverted · 26/05/2024 17:29

Currently pretty unwell 😫 cauliflower cheese for a hot meal with some nice steamed veg and potato wedges. Cold meal- cheese and pickle sandwiches all day 😋

RedRobyn2021 · 26/05/2024 17:34

Can't go wrong with tomato soup

I often crave cheese when I'm poorly, cheddar not soft

RedRobyn2021 · 26/05/2024 17:34

My mum always craves chip shop chips with lots of salt and vinegar

EatCrow · 26/05/2024 17:36

Mug of strong tea, thick sliced bread toasted with butter and marmalade/cheese/marmite.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 26/05/2024 17:36

Complan.

trampoline123 · 26/05/2024 17:37

If I feel unwell I usually just don't eat.

Once I start to feel a bit better chicken soup, dry crackers, haribo, salt and vinegar discos are my go to.

Ohhhthedrama · 26/05/2024 17:37

Tater tots with beans and a fried egg topped off with brown sauce.

Peanutbutterfan · 26/05/2024 17:49

Reading this thread has made me think how funny it is that when we’re ill we often crave processed foods when you’d think we should all be craving organic whole foods. Same with having morning sickness or being on chemo, I can only stomach the sorts of carby, processed foods I enjoyed as a student. Anything ‘healthy’ makes me feel like wretching.

Ilovemyshed · 26/05/2024 17:59

Packet mix semolina
Custard
Rice pudding
Tinned tomato soup
Home made cream of chicken or chicken and corn
Home made chicken noodle

RubiesandRose · 26/05/2024 17:59

Mines a toasted bagel with butter, cheddar cheese, black pepper and mayonnaise. Also chips with bread and butter (white sliced) and mayo for dipping.

CocoapuffPuff · 26/05/2024 19:10

It's childhood foods, isn't it?

Hubby is making grilled Cumberland sausages with boiled potatoes and peas, and I take back what I said earlier. He chose sausages because he knows how to cook them. I admit I don't much fancy it but I'm not going to throw it back in his face.

Yes! I forget who said that rice pudding was adult breastmilk.

Darkdiamond · 26/05/2024 19:31

Very hot milk on cornflakes with lots and lots of sugar.

Toast with very salty butter and super noodles/tinned macaroni cheese/egg

GreenSmithing · 26/05/2024 19:46

Interesting about it being childhood foods. I wonder what this generation of children will want when they're ill as adults.

CocoapuffPuff · 26/05/2024 20:14

Probably similar to us. I can't imagine a parent putting anything but toast, eggs, soup, noodles etc in front of a poorly kid. It's got to be familiar and soothing.

Rice pudding and semolina are the only things on the list that made me shudder. I loathed milky puds, still do. The only exception is ice cream.

I’ve got Covid so no bugger wants me in the kitchen, so I’m reliant on whatever shit they’ll dish up. I’m main family cook because I want us to eat from scratch, so have the irony of eating the worst when I’m ill.

Otherwise I’d have homemade soup, shashuka would be great, some kind of curry to unblock my nose, and chocolate because that tastes the best at the moment. Rice pudding would be good as well.

noodlezoodle · 26/05/2024 20:29

Boiled eggs and toast soldiers absolutely slathered in butter.

But ice cream for the sore throat sounds just what you need OP!

mathanxiety · 26/05/2024 21:07

Lemon and ginger tea, and honey.

Mashed potatoes with butter and peas.
Toasted cheese with tomato chutney.
Curried rice with lots of onions, and plump raisins.
Lentil soup.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/05/2024 21:18

Toast with butter and Marmite. Hot Ribena.

TheChosenTwo · 26/05/2024 21:20

Proper smooth creamy mashed potato made with double cream and butter melted together and hot when mashed and mixed in. Could eat a whole bowl full. Lots of salt.
Get well soon 💐

chattyness · 26/05/2024 21:37

boiled white rice or zapped micro rice, stir in a big knob of real butter and some parsley then a chopped up boiled egg and some grated or cottage cheese .
Or mashed potato in a bowl , instant is fine for this, then hot tomato soup with a bit of sweet chilli sauce and or garlic stirred in poured over the top.
Very softly scrambled eggs with cottage cheese mixed in.If you can't put in on toast have bread and butter with it .
Another vote for the hot toddy, I hate whisky but in a hot toddy it's lovely.
Hot chocolate made with milk, grate in
some creamed coconut and top with cinnamon

NugsNotDrugs · 26/05/2024 21:43

Baked beans with black pepper & a ton of grated cheddar. Toast on the side.

Soup. Chicken, veg or tomato. Fresh bread with butter.

my ill food is much more processed than my day to day food!

irishsea123 · 26/05/2024 21:48

Chips 👌🏼
