Just that - what do you make when your throat is sore from coughing and you're low on energy?
I've been on porridge and soup for a week....Still no appetite, which is deeply unlike me.

This is great if it's a cold or flu (if you have the energy to make it...but I make it in a big pot and freeze for when I'm ill)

philosoppee · 26/05/2024 12:52

Macaroni cheese! The only option!

AdaColeman · 26/05/2024 12:56

As others have said:
Heinz tomato soup
Neals Yard chicken soup
Egg on toast (weirdly)

Bacon Sarnie - one half of the bread dipped in bacon fat
I was just reading that bacon fat is a rich source of Vitamin D, so obviously massively good for you!

Egg in a cup

@AdaColeman

Egg-in-a-cup (hot hard boiled egg or two, peeled and mashed up in a warmed cup or mug, with real butter, salt and pepper to taste) served with lightly toasted thin white bread and butter. Prepared by someone other than you, it is love, comfort and healing in a simple meal.

longdistanceclaraclara · 26/05/2024 13:11

Micro mash and bisto

CocoapuffPuff · 26/05/2024 13:13

The idea of someone else preparing food for me has just made me laugh which brought on a coughing fit. As if....
Seriously, dh is good for cups of tea, that's it. He's been known to wait till its clear I'm not getting out of my migraine bed to cook dinner before he scrambles himself an egg at 9pm.
I'm currently on the sofa in the blanket of doom, while he tackles tesco and I know he's hating me for it right now. He does his share of everything else but hates beyond all hatred the supermarket shop.

If there's a decent Chinese nearby, a portion of chow mein is always nice when you're feeling crap. If you can't stomach big flavours, even a plain one with just onions/beansprouts is good.

Egg in a cup

My Irish friend's recommended meal for all illnesses. With a knob of butter.

EmilyTheCriminal · 26/05/2024 13:52

In my family, we have 'chopped up eggy in a cuppy', and it always has to be eaten from the special mug.

It's 1 or 2 soft boiled eggs taken out of their shells, with salt and pepper.

LilyHarris · 26/05/2024 14:15

Macaroni cheese, Heinz tomato soup or a packet of ready made mashed potatoes with cheese grated into it.

CountingCrones · 26/05/2024 14:18

Pasta with butter, grated cheese and oodles of black pepper. And with added chilli flakes if I'm bunged up.

Lifelikinotdothinki · 26/05/2024 14:20

Heinz tomato soup. It has to be Heinz.

Tarkan · 26/05/2024 14:21

Mashed up egg in a cup here too. Somewhere between soft and medium boiled for me, nice and hot with a ridiculous amount of butter mixed in and a touch of salt and pepper. Then served with hot buttery toast.

CocoapuffPuff · 26/05/2024 16:12

I think it's eggs for tea. Just managed a slice of toast without it scratching my throat and making me cough, which required hideous amounts of butter!
