Low calorie lunches other than soup / salad

OMGitsnotgood · 11/05/2024 09:47

Need to lose some weight so am overhauling my eating habit. Key to my weight loss success is still enjoying my food and not feeling hungry soon after a meal.

I love bread, cheese etc for lunch - likely hence why I need to lose weight! I will still have the occasional sandwich but want primarily to have things that are healthy, lo cal, filling and tasty.

Soup / salads are good but need some other options. Want to avoid pasta salads etc .

Thank you

Scrambled eggs, omelettes with veggies in work well

OMGitsnotgood · 11/05/2024 09:55

Oh yes I love eggs thank you @showmethegin

I often have tinned tomatoes on toast if I need a low calorie lunch (half a tin of tomatoes is 44 calories).
Omelette with chicken and veg in to bulk it out.
Scrambled egg with bacon and tomatoes.

AuntieDolly · 11/05/2024 10:02

If you have access to a microwave have a look at prepped pots. Less calories than a sandwich and cheaper than a meal deal. I often don't need a full evening meal either

The bacon is unlikely to be a good low cal idea but ham would be

I use pitta bread instead of two regular slices of bread.
I don't warm it, but I split in half and try to use a filling which doesn't require butter so say cream cheese and lettuce or houmous and tomato and maybe a few added beans (although this does require eating with a knife and fork in my case as I use probably too much houmous and it's a bit messy).

kitsuneghost · 11/05/2024 10:33

I am confused by no salad. Its like saying evening meal but no dinners. Do you mean no lettuce, tomato, cucumber or do you mean no mix of vegetables, carbs and proteins at all?

She's quite clearly saying she doesn't want to eat salad for lunch. No idea why you'd be confused by that!

BarryKentPoet · 11/05/2024 10:37

But in case you are not sure what a salad is = raw vegetables sometimes with other ingredients.

GrumpyPanda · 11/05/2024 10:39

Warm lentils with lots of veggies.
Shakshuka.
Tacos.

PossumintheHouse · 11/05/2024 10:41

Make a decent bolognese and wrap it in salad leaves rather than have with pasta (it sounds weird, but it's really tasty, honestly).
Veg sticks (peppers, carrot, celery) and variety of dips - guacamole, hummus, peanut putter.
Low-carb tortilla wraps with chicken and salad/bolognese and salad.
Bake a flatbread topped with tomato, mozzarella (low fat if you like) and basil.

WhamBamThankU · 11/05/2024 10:48

Fajita mixed veg/chicken and wrapped in cos lettuce leaves are lovely.

HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf · 11/05/2024 10:57

Shakshuka with two eggs

Falafel (they're only like 40 cals each so a number that you're comfortable with) with lettuce wraps, crudite, hot sauce and hummus (weigh the hummus though, it's calorific!) I know that sounds salady but for some reason I don't feel like it is when I eat it.

I make overnight oats with Greek yogurt, frozen berries and a scrunched up wheetabix, I think the malty flavour is much nicer than oats. You can eat that anytime and it's portable.

No sorry I meant as alternatives to salad - I eat lots of different types of salads. Am not cutting out carbs, again just looking for alternatives

Turkey bacon is a good alternative. I will still eat regular bacon occasionally.

Fritata is a good option, you can exclude potatos if calorie limit doesn't allow.

In the summer I really enjoy sliced beef tomatoes with balsamic vinegar, rock salt and black pepper on crisp breads (Riveta etc) with a sprinkle of finely diced onion.

Vietnamese summer rolls

Cauliflower Roasted (just use a spray oil) with cumin and red onion, some wilted spinach with garlic and tandoori chicken breast.

Grilled field mushrooms, tomatoes, a poached egg and bacon medallion.

ncforuchelp · 11/05/2024 14:30

I have 30g of cous cous, a handful of chickpeas, tomatoes, cucumber, beetroot, parsley, lemon juice, 1/4 of avocado, half a teaspoon of maple syrup, paprika and half a teaspoon of olive oil. Salt and peppers Mix well. Bloody lovely lunch!! I have it every day as I've got no willpower and will eat 3-4 slices of toast otherwise so make enough for 2 days at a time.

unsync · 11/05/2024 14:49

Slice of toasted sourdough, half an avocado and a couple of tablespoons of kimchi to top it all off - in fact as much Kimchi as you like - all for about 250 cals. If you want a little extra, add an egg.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 11/05/2024 14:51

These all sound good. Have piled on the pounds recently.

@AtleastitsnotMonday I did have a spinach frittata out the other week which was delicious as it was hot and sunny outside.

OMGitsnotgood · 11/05/2024 15:02

Lots of lovely ideas, thank you

I like chicken breast cooked in Nando’s sauce.

I usually butterfly the chicken breast, stab it and then marinate it in Nando's medium sauce. 20g of the sauce is usually enough and is only 11 cals. I leave it in the fridge and then put it in the air fryer for 12 minutes at lunch time. 145g chicken breast (raw no skin) is 106 cals.

I then either have it with salad, in a wrap/pitta or with some houmous and carrot sticks.

I weigh the houmous out though as I could easily demolish the whole tub!

NotCrazyCozITakeTheRightPillsEveryday · 11/05/2024 15:45

Also sometimes I just fry a bit of sea bass and have it with stir fried veggies. 1 sea bass fillet is 149 cals. I use a few sprays on Napolina extra virgin olive oil. It's one cal per spray.

Tristar15 · 11/05/2024 15:51

Sardines on toast

Spanish eggs - can’t remember the exact name but you do them with chopped tomatoes, paprika etc, just Google them.

Avacado on toast / sourdough

Creamed mushrooms on sourdough

You would need to check portion sizes etc for these and make sure not too many calories but these are some that I do.

Lemsipper · 11/05/2024 15:54

Rice cakes, some topped with cream cheese and some with humous is lovely! Then topped with veg (cucumber, carrot, tomato) I use the Kallo corn cakes 😋

Porridgeislife · 12/05/2024 19:28

Ryvita topped with things. My favourite is cottage cheese, tinned fish and tomato with cracked pepper and lemon juice.
