Breakfast : Ready break, coco pops, sugar puffs, variety pack or a pop tart! The reality was ready break during the week and coco pops or sugar puffs at the weekend. Pop tart occasionally.

packed lunch on a school day: Ham ham sandwich, monster munch crisps ,apple in slices, ski yoghurt and a trio or united bar and a carton of um bongo! Sadly, I was never allowed to have this for packed lunch each primary school day - my 8 year old self thought it was really unfair!

Dinner:

chicken nuggets, chips and peas or findus . crispy pancakes . Followed by strawberry angel delight, ice magic , artic roll or a frozen mousse.

Sunday High Tea: or lay up as sis and I and cousin's used to call it at my Nana's one Sunday per month. Assorted sandwiches, rolls, home made cakes , crisps etc and cherryade pop as a treat.

snacks/ sweets: A bag of pick and mix, toffos, highland toffee bars, tutu fruit, ski yoghurt, burger bite crisps or a pocket pizza.

Mushy meat, peas and mash - my mother used to serve beef mince on it's own and we called it mushy meat. Does anyone eat mince on its own or was it just her who thought it was acceptable?

Love this thread so many memories on here!

B - ReadyBrek with lashings of brown sugar on the top (because that was healthier than white sugar so was permitted!)

L - cheese and onion sandwich with salad cream and a slice of school chocolate crunch

D - triangle pizza, homemade chips and a token bit of salad which was just lettuce and cucumber! Or a very close second DM's homemade meat and Potato pie with pickled beetroot (which I know make but it's not a patch on hers despite following the identical recipe!)

Want to go dig out DMs recipe book now for all the weird and wonderful things she would make us!

Targettargets · 05/05/2024 19:24

Blamhe · 05/05/2024 20:19

Fried egg and toast.
Cheese sandwich on white bread with brown sauce.
Chicken balls, chips and curry sauce from the Chinese.

LindorDoubleChoc · 05/05/2024 20:21

White sliced toast with Anchor butter and marmite.

School dinners cottage pie with peas and then gypsy tart.

Fish and chips from the local chippy (sorry Mum I can't really remember your home-cooked dinners from my childhood).

Afterwards maybe a cheeky slice of Neopolitan ice cream from the block wrapped in cardboard in the tiny ice box above the under-counter size fridge that served our family of 4 just fine.

Since when did we all need American style fridges the size of a wardrobe? This is something that still mystifies me.
