Do you use Mayo? Sour cream? Salad cream? Any mustard?
Any extras like chives, onion etc?

How do you make potato salad?

I make mine with Caesar sauce and chopped spring onions.

Forgottenmyphone · 04/05/2024 05:03

Mustard, mayo AND sour cream, plus white wine vinegar and a squirt of lemon juice, with spring onions and sometimes bacon pieces.

PotatoPudding · 04/05/2024 05:06

Salad cream and mint.

Overtheatlantic · 04/05/2024 05:08

Mayo, mustard and a shredded gherkin.

Awaywiththeferries123 · 04/05/2024 05:22

Roast baby potatoes
Crispy bacon
Dressing made of mayonnaise, mustard and white wine vinegar.
Chives

It gets compliments everytime.

Always use waxy potatoes . 2/3 mayo, 1/3 horseradish. Chopped chives.

OpusGiemuJavlo · 04/05/2024 05:34

1:1 ratio of mayonaise and cream cheese, with lots of fresh chives and a bit of ground black pepper.

Choosing right potatoes and cooking&cooling them rught so that they are waxy not mushy is also important.

My mum's recipe was a tin of potatoes (drained) and salad cream - it wasn't great.

isthismylifenow · 04/05/2024 05:41

We put condensed milk in ours. It's a common way to make it here.

Don't knock it until you try it 😀

Not a huge amount. If you use a cup of mayo, use a quarter cup of condensed milk with a bit of mustard added in for the sauce.

Scintella · 04/05/2024 05:49

I put home made oil and vinegar dressing on the warm potatoes. When cool add mayo and a little salad cream as I find mayonnaise too bland aline.

SoundTheSirens · 04/05/2024 06:03

Mayo, whole grain mustard, finely chopped chives.

It’s the simplest thing I make and I always get asked for the “recipe” if I make it for new people so it seems a popular combination.

Like the condensed milk that's 50% sugar? I think I could get my heart round evaporated milk, but I'm really struggling with the idea of condensed.

Mashed potato and mayo with a bit of onion is how is served around here (in deli’s)

This is sounding amazing! What type of potatoes do you use?

New potatoes halved, toss in olive oil and salt, add sour cream, spring onions and chopped gherkins and mix well season to taste.

Whatever is in Lidl, because they’re roasted they don’t go mushy.

I got the inspiration from this recipe: https://iambaker.net/roasted-potato-salad/

New pots cooked done but still firm and diced, salad cream to coat and chopped chives or spring onion. Even finely chopped onion if no chives or spring onions.

Mine end up like that if I overcook the potatoes, still tastes great, nice to know it's a thing!

Family recipe: Mayo, boiled eggs, boiled potatoes, celery, spring onion. Celery salt as flavouring, absolutely no pepper as "too spicy"

My 21st century update that I make at home but is never to be brought to family occasions as my dad will say "where's the Mayo?": lose the mayo and boiled eggs, add mountain of fresh dill, dress with lemon/olive oil/mustard/white wine or apple cider vinegar. Cracker black pepper v much encouraged.

AdaColeman · 04/05/2024 09:14

New potatoes, mayonnaise and sour cream here. I usually add horseradish and chopped gherkins or capers.
I often turn it into a type of Russian salad by adding diced salami or sausage, or flaked smoked mackerel or salmon, or diced ham.

Yes! The sweet stuff.

It just works. I said mayo but I meant salad cream.. I use the same term for both, but I think it makes a difference here. It balances out the sharpness.

Grumpynan · 04/05/2024 09:41

I use new potatoes cooked and diced. Some chopped spring onions or chives, parsley and whole grain mustard. I use a 50/50 mix of mayonnaise and Greek yogurt with a splash of lemon juice. A sprinkle of paprika instead of mustard is nice.

I absolutely love mushrooms salad too always gets good comments - I use baby mushrooms whole but it’s nice with a mix of different ones too. Cook in a little butter and oil with garlic. Leave to cool. Make a dressing with oil vinegar lemon juice and toss the mushrooms to coat, add some chopped parsley or chives and some very finely chopped sun dried tomatoes or some roasted peppers (I use the ones in a jar )leave to marinade overnight if possible.

SpringLobelia · 04/05/2024 12:13

My great grandma was Russian. So this was the salad I was brought up with.

It is usually made with smoked sausage but we sometimes use chopped pickled herring instead. Bliss on dark rye bread and with vodka.

I think I'll have to make it this weekend!

Olive oil, lemon juice, whole grain mustard, black pepper.
Dp doesn't like mayo in a potato salad so this works for us.
