jenk are you OK? Sounds like a right nightmare!

but actually.... have done scrambled eggs, spam and super noodles for ds1 sevceral times pre-GF dieta s it was a favourite.... for me as much as him

eekamoose · 28/03/2008 19:46

Buttertoast - that's toast, and butter .

But here's a little tip (perhaps I should put it in parenting tips section lol!) - if you butter a piece of bread and then grill it, it smells like bacon when cooking and tastes altogether more interesting than a piece of normal toast and butter.

LoveMyGirls · 28/03/2008 19:46

tinned peach sandwich

jenk1 · 28/03/2008 19:46

i actually enjoyed it hahahaha.

yes am fine, apart from the finanacial situation, i keep phoning them everyday, today i asked them was it normal procedure for them to deny a single mother with 2 severely disabled children money for 3 weeks, he couldnt answer me.

xdh is helping out as well and we are getting on very well which is a good thing.

That's good then- was worried about you. E-mail me if you get too stuck OK? (if I dont reply immediately not ignoring you- baby due dates are today and Sunday LOL)

tax credits did similar to us a few years back, when we told them about the higher rate DLA.... we got compensation for it, make sure you apply for that too.

When my db went through a prolonged skint phase he bought a sack of broken basmati rice and a sack of lentils and at it most nights

Mind you, he didn't have children.

Jenk, have you asked to speak to a supervisor/team leader? WHereabouts are you? (roughly)

Slubberdegullion · 28/03/2008 19:51

Oh dear, poor you.

DH managed to give himself scurvy at university by only eating supernoodles for whole term having spent his grant in its entirety on beer in previous two terms.

jenk1 · 28/03/2008 19:56

yes have spoken to a manager, she was very unhelpful, i lost my rag with her and told her she was discriminating against me and the kids cos she was giving me the same blarb as everyone else when i have 2 disabled children and i depend on that money, im living off their dla allowance which is supposed to be for their mobility.
she refused to chase it up for me as well.
im getting on to my mp first thing on monday, i even phoned income support yesterday (i should have their money by tuesday, its my fault cos i didnt send the form back as i thought i had to wait for WFTC before i did) and the lady on the phone was disgusted and told me to pester the life out of them.

we wont starve, xdh is helping me out and my mum but its just not fair they shouldnt be doing this.
it makes me

French toast is my favourite from my poor days.

jenk1 · 28/03/2008 19:59

ive heard of french toast, how do you make that?

OP posts:
TheDevilWearsPrimark · 28/03/2008 20:03

Crack a couple of eggs, whisk, chuck a drop of ilk or cream in, then add slat and pepper or sugar depending on if you want sweet or savoury.
Dip sliced bread (ideally staleish) and fry lightly on both sides. Tastes much better than its components. It's a staple here.

KbearAndHerSweetBippy · 28/03/2008 20:08

We had pancakes last week when I couldn't be arsed to cook anything containing any real nutrition!! Forgot to make them on pancake day so we pretended!

Was luvverly but I could only manage about 6.

profsturg · 28/03/2008 20:17

my fav poor meal was mashed potatoes cheese onions and a couple of sausages. mmmmmmm might make that tomorrow

mammyofET · 29/03/2008 20:12

The worst meal I ever made DH (in our early days) was chicken breast with noodles! It was dry he said it was a cr@p tea and it was!

MarkStretch · 29/03/2008 20:15

My aunt used to soak a piece of stale bread in gravy, shut her eyes and pretend she was eating roast beef!

onepieceoflollipop · 29/03/2008 20:17

When we were little we didn't have much money as a family.

We would have (real) spaghetti - cheap brand - with tinned tomatoes and grated cheese on top. Tinned tomatoes on toast.

Cheese and potato pie (mash and cheese and nothing else)

Bread featured heavily. The only veg we had was generally peas and carrots. Fruit was apples.

collision · 29/03/2008 20:19

A pretty bad one was quorn sausages, frozen mash and Bisto gravy.

DH couldnt eat it.

It was dire.

Mind you he is a chef! I was trying to make a point that he wouldnt be able to tell the difference between quorn and meat.

He could!

LarryVeestAdamAntSpawnChorus · 29/03/2008 20:21

DWP - we had French Toast for lunch...I lurve it. We drizzled maple syrup over it. Honey works just as well. Pepper is a must IMO even if you're dizzling syrup/honey.

bellavita · 29/03/2008 20:28

Mmmm, mine love french toast.

fryalot · 29/03/2008 20:36

when we lived in our last house, we didn't have a kitchen for a while - I used to be able to make all sorts of (vaguely) edible meals with the aid of a kettle and nothing else.

Instant mash, pot noodles, instant noodles, plastic chicken and ham....

disgusting!

meridian · 30/03/2008 11:54

my fave poor meal.. and still is a erm special junktreat.. is ramen noodles (those square ones not the supernoodles) .. boil them with extra water and add hotdogs and cheese, a bit of cream freshe/sour cream.. a dash of hot sauce.. yum...

very cheap though.

or plain pasta with a bit of butter a a bit of cheese... DH thinks I'm wierd.. also rice with a bit of butter.... god there is no hope for me
