Sorry, posting 2 threads tonight.

DH got a £50 M&S voucher from work as a Christmas bonus. Whilst I would love to spend it on jumpers, money is tight so thought I would spend it in the new M&S food hall that’s opened near me.

Never really shopped there before other than to pick up Percy pigs or some fruit. Any recommendations on what to buy? Family of 3, one teen. Thanks

I really like their oat biscuits and they're good for lunch boxes. The mixed free range eggs are great value. The sausages at 2 packs for £5 are good - DC love the caramelised onion ones.
I also love the picked herring, the French mixed cheese pack and the honey butter 😄

Globules · 09/01/2024 20:38

Just do your normal food shop there. Quite a lot of their staples are price matched to Aldi.

BeyondMyWits · 09/01/2024 20:48

Choc chunk cookies, frozen raw to cook at home. In the freezer section. Sooooooooo gooooood!

rebelrebbel · 09/01/2024 20:54

Their 'extra special' meal deals are always a nice treat (and will make you feel like a voucher wasn't wasted).

I also enjoy their stir fry kits and salads. A nice bottle of plonk and some Percy pigs and that's £50 😆

I'd get a few treats then some of your usual shopping! M&S own brand stuff is good value and I think as good as branded (tinned bits etc)

Meal deals are good - pizza, gastro ready meals. We often get them instead of a takeaway

peppermintcrisp · 09/01/2024 20:58

Sourdough handcrafted 36hr breads even frozen version delicious.
Fruit and vegetables all good.
Pork Saltimbocca frozen joint.
Apple and cinnamon frozen tart/strudel
Mushroom ravoli vegetarian ready meal is beautiful.

3 for £7 or £8 deals. Half a chicken- already cooked- is included. Great for protein

easterbuns1 · 09/01/2024 21:10

I've started picking up quite a few bits each week when taking a relative into markies having previously never shopped there. As others have said lots of their own brand things are on par with branded items, I really like their biscuits and bakery items. I find the meal deals decent value and a wee bit of a treat. The kids like the pizza one and it's much cheaper than a takeaway and the gastropub ones are also nice.

TheLadyIsAVamp · 09/01/2024 21:13

For a treat, I adore the Mexican layered dip and the Gastro chicken kievs.

DGPP · 09/01/2024 21:13

They have loads of deals on when you buy meals/packs of meat etc. I find it brilliant quality for the price

Icantremembermyusername · 09/01/2024 21:17

The pizza deal is ace. 2 adults and 1 teen. We eat a pizza, 2 chicken sides, salad and fries (not from M & S!) and freeze the extra pizza to put towards another meal.
The crisp bakes, they are like fish cakes but with cheese and bacon, corned beef and I think there’s a minced beef and onion option.
Smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich filler. I could eat it out of the tub!
Cambazola cheese!
if you like fresh pasta the pasta, sauce and bread deal is good.
DP often gets sent in on the way home from about 5pm when they start reducing stuff!

ImNotReallyHere · 09/01/2024 21:20

Ooh thanks all. Lots to think about. Will definitely feel like a treat week. Definitely going to look for the frozen choc chip cookies and pork saltimbocca if they have. And check out their stir fry too

Three quiches for £8 at the moment. They freeze really nicely. They do a good-value high-quality spaghetti, chicken legs, mixed eggs, sardines in olive oil. Just nice, simple things at good prices. Also love their maple butter for porridge.

ImNotReallyHere · 09/01/2024 21:21

And the crisp bakes sound interesting too

Really. I assumed much more expensive

That’s a reply fail to pp who said they price match Aldi. Sorry

I like their:

Frozen chips
Cauliflower cheese
Plant Kitchen Cauliflower Popcorn
Gastro Steak Pie
Tomato and Basil pasta sauce (in jar not refridgerated)
All the breaded chicken products
Gastro Cottage Pie

EwwSprouts · 09/01/2024 21:37

The peppered pork belly about £6. Raw in the joints area. Cook it long and low and it makes juicy pulled pork enough for three.
The mixed size eggs are vfm.
The lemon and white chocolate cookies are expensive but delicious. They cheap biscuits are good quality.
The west country cheddar is tasty.

MissyB1 · 09/01/2024 21:39

Their own cleaning products are great, and sensibly priced.

Love their fruit, it’s good quality and lasts.

PinkMimosa · 09/01/2024 22:13

If you eat sausage theirs are from outdoor reared pigs and are really good.

GellerYeller · 09/01/2024 22:18

Another vote for corned beef crispbakes!
Their rhubarb or raspberry ripple ice creams are delicious too.

Dinkydoo17 · 09/01/2024 22:18

Lovely pizzas 😃

EwwSprouts · 09/01/2024 22:20

Ooh forgot the fake ice-cream 'not snickers' bars. Sublime!

kissthecarboniferouslimestone · 09/01/2024 22:30

Following this - have just added a few bits to the Ocado order - thanks!

SailorGeri · 09/01/2024 22:34

Their extremely chocolate my biscuits are fabulous.
