In actuality it was horrible. Prosciutto is like raw bacon. Mozzarella didn’t melt. Olive oil is tasteless grease. I like pesto with spaghetti but not, as it turns out, in a sandwich.

i was so looking forward to it. Went shopping on the way home specially 😕

seem to be getting many replies and as I’m pretty sure loads of people must have experiences food disappointment at some point and I’m genuinely interested, I thought I’d do an AIBU instead 😄

Prosciutto is delicious...so is olive oil. I won't say you have an unrefined palate but it sounds like your issue rather than anything else

I was so looking forward to beef wellington at Gordon Ramsay restaurant and it was so disappointing. The meat was amazing, the pastry was amazing, but everything was overpowered by the mushroom and just tasted like that, and kind of ‘dirt’ like.

Now crave a wellington with no mushroom 😜

Yes, sorry. I should have made it clearer that my post was very much my opinion rather than leading people to believe that I was in fact speaking for the population as a whole.

I don’t know why your mozzarella wouldn’t melt. Even the cheapest pre-shredded one has always melted for me. And movie oil shouldn’t be tasteless grease, unless your bought the light refined one meant for cooking. One of the issues using extra virgin olive oil in many types of cooking is the strong flavour it can impart.

I’ve never had beef wellington. I love beef and I love pastry but I do worry that it would be an anticlimax.

I have to say I agree re: prosciutto. I had it for a starter recently and it was in fact far too slimy for my taste.

I went to a Michelin star restaurant a few years ago, Casamia. We'd been before and it has been spectacular - this time, they'd completely changed the set up (the walls were painted black, they projected noisy videos onto said walls all evening) and everything was just flavoured with miso. There were about 16 courses and at least 10 had miso in them. It was so disappointing, particularly when the bill came to hundreds of pounds.

Not surprisingly, Casamia is no longer and Casa has taken its place. Haven't bene to try it yet but hoping the place is no longer in darkness.

I got his book for Christmas, I haven't seen the instagram post but it sounds like the same sandwich that's in his book - I thought it sounded lovely.

I thought prosciutto was a standard food nowadays...I'm surprised a pp had only recently tried it
