Life has ended unless teenage daughter has made prawn cocktail for starters.

Tis the law and has been for the last 11 years since I taught her how to make prawn cocktail.

We always have a combination of salmons - smoked, hot smoked, gravlax (I cure that myself - really easy and very tasty!) with huge prawns and a choice of Marie rose and American cocktail sauce as a starter. It’s a huge starter but there would be mutiny if we stopped it. Followed by turkey and all the trimmings. Then a very long wait until pudding which is homemade Christmas pud (a recipe my late father got from a newspaper. Not too heavy or boozy and cooked in a spherical mould) with brandy butter or brandy sauce. And either a bought M&S dessert or if I’m feeling keen something homemade like pavlova. We eat quite late though - around 5 - and won’t have had lunch.

@Globules oh yes - ds (now 23) makes the Marie Rose sauce. Has done for past 5 years or so to to the “recipe” I showed him and has to be given so much praise for it!

Starter - Smoked salmon, prawns, salad and horseradish creme

Pudding (much after meal) - chocolate puds for kids, mince pies & baileys cream, Christmas pud & brandy sauce and a strawberry pavlova

Huge cheese board and chocolates in the evening
