Alcoholic Drink for a Sweet Tooth

Badromancer · 15/11/2023 11:57

This may shock a lot of MN but I am yet to find an alcoholic drink that I actually like the taste of. I can't stomach Beers & Ciders, and Wines just don't taste nice (despite being on numerous wine tasting days and even a holiday!). The only Spirit I can tolerate is Vodka.

All I drink is any sweet, fruity Cocktail (Strawberry/Raspberry/Peach/Pineapple) cocktail with Vodka. Or a Vodka Soda with loads of lemon squeezed in or a Vodka fruit juice or with loads of lemon squeezed it. But I'm getting a bit fed up and wonder if I'm missing something. With Christmas coming up, I do like to get a bit merry and let my hair down occasionally.

Please recommend something for a very sweet tooth. I've tried many Sweet Wines but they genuinely don't taste sweet to me.

ps- I know it's ok to not like alcohol and it's not a necessity to drink. It's not peer pressure, it's just I wonder what else I can try on special occasions!

I haven't drunk for ages, but I used to like Southern Comfort in a tall glass with lemonade or Aperol spritzer.
Also partial to a good pump cider like Stowford press.

Have you tried the chocolate Bailey’s? There’s also this that I’ve spotted in Aldi groceries.aldi.co.uk/en-GB/p-ballycastle-chocolate-hazelnut-caramel-flavour-country-cream-70cl/4088600542249 and they do a white chocolate version too which I should imagine is very sweet.
For cocktails, I like salted caramel martini and this cherry bakewell frobishers.com/blogs/logbook/the-best-cherry-bakewell-cocktail-recipe

Archers and lemonade? Fruity ciders?

TeapotCollection · 15/11/2023 12:20

I was also going to say try the flavoured Baileys, there’s a handful out there. Also try mixing Baileys with Sambuca

Feliciacat · 15/11/2023 12:24

As others have said; Bailey’s! Also, Amarula liquor is gorgeous! It’s a South African cream liquor like Bailey’s that is made with marula fruit. I think it tastes like strawberry and caramel. I’m not sure which supermarkets stock it so check online before going.

Have you also tried Tequila Rose? I haven’t but it’s meant to be a strawberry and cream tequila drink. If you like vodka, you’d like tequila. It sounds very sweet too.

A cheaper option to these could be just vodka mixed with coke or juice since you say you like vodka. You could potentially add vodka to hot chocolate with cream or a milkshake but I’m not sure if it would separate.

Southern Comfort and lemonade's a good shout, it tastes like wine gums.

karmakameleon · 15/11/2023 12:31

My suggestions are baileys, advocaat and amaretto. If you like lemon snowballs (advocaat and lemonade) or amaretto sours (amaretto, sugar syrup and lemon).

karmakameleon · 15/11/2023 12:32

Or sticking with the cocktails, what about a cosmopolitan or a white lady?

Badromancer · 15/11/2023 12:34

Baileys isn't very sweet for me! It tastes more milky to me.

I love the sound of those akin to Wine gums & sours! starts a drinks list

In 40 years, I've never tried Techquila! Adds to list...

Archers is very sweet. Usually drunk with lemonade.
Chambord is less common but also very sweet. Probably drunk with lemonade although we tend to have it in prosecco

Feliciacat · 15/11/2023 12:43

Oh, if you’ve never tried tequila then add it to orange juice with a shot of grenadine syrup for a tequila sunrise. I think you’d like that as it tastes like sweets really. Sounds like you don’t actually like milky drinks so I retract all my previous suggestions apart from tequila or vodka with mixers.

PuppyMonkey · 15/11/2023 12:53

Do they still do Drambuie? It’s a lovely sweet liqueur whiskey.

Or how about Tia Maria?

*nostalgic

PuppyMonkey · 15/11/2023 12:53

Or sweet martini and lemonade.

Stroopwaffels · 15/11/2023 12:55

Peach schapps and lemonade was the drink of my youth.

PeskyPotato · 15/11/2023 12:57

I'm the same! I recently discovered gin liquor with lemonade. I thought I hated gin but that was because I was taking it with tonic which is ick.

NotLactoseFree · 15/11/2023 13:01

I think spirits and mixers might be more your thing. Have you tried rum and coke (ask for dark rum, not white rum)?

What about fortified wines likes sherry or port? Port usually is sweet, but sherry you might have to look for one.

I think "sweet" wines are not that sweet, I agree. But have you tried dessert wines? A late harvest is a sweet dessert wine. A noble late harvest is even sweeter.

Luis Felipe Edwards 'Late Harvest' Viognier/Sauvignon Blanc 2018/19 Half Bottle, Colchagua Valley

Luis Felipe Edwards is one of Chile's most awarded producers. They make this great-value dessert wine from grapes picked at the very end of the ripening season. It's complex and sweet with notes of peach, citrus, honey and oak. Pair this with blue chee...

Badromancer · 15/11/2023 13:11

Thank you. I wish I liked wine but it just doesn't taste good. Sauvignon Blanc tastes like Vinegar to me.

Completely forgot about Archers! I feel 18 again..adds to list haha!

Amaretto and cranberry juice, tastes like a cherry Bakewell.

TheChosenTwo · 15/11/2023 13:18

Don’t try an aperol spritz, they’re disgustingly bitter, like drinking hairspray! I even tried it with lemonade and it was still foul 🫣

FizzingAda · 15/11/2023 13:20

My everyday tipple (well, not every day!) is port. Rich and fruity, not too sweet but not sour. A drink you might like is blue curaçao, a sweet orange liqueur. You can add vodka if you want it stronger, or a mixer for a cocktail. Apricot brandy, cheery brandy, most liqueurs are fairly sweet.

TotalOverhaul · 15/11/2023 13:44

If you like the taste of almonds, Amaretto on ice, or sweet coffee - Tia Maria on ice.

TotalOverhaul · 15/11/2023 13:45

Or a classic Bacardi and Coke.

Sparklyhat · 15/11/2023 13:53

Definitely stay away from Aperol spritz!
Vodka with cranberry and orange juice (sex on the beach) is good.
Could try those cans of cocktails in shops, strawberry daiquiri, pina colada, pornstr martini etc
Do you like Malibu? Malibu and pineapple juice is fruity
