Alcoholic Drink for a Sweet Tooth

Badromancer · 15/11/2023 11:57

This may shock a lot of MN but I am yet to find an alcoholic drink that I actually like the taste of. I can't stomach Beers & Ciders, and Wines just don't taste nice (despite being on numerous wine tasting days and even a holiday!). The only Spirit I can tolerate is Vodka.

All I drink is any sweet, fruity Cocktail (Strawberry/Raspberry/Peach/Pineapple) cocktail with Vodka. Or a Vodka Soda with loads of lemon squeezed in or a Vodka fruit juice or with loads of lemon squeezed it. But I'm getting a bit fed up and wonder if I'm missing something. With Christmas coming up, I do like to get a bit merry and let my hair down occasionally.

Please recommend something for a very sweet tooth. I've tried many Sweet Wines but they genuinely don't taste sweet to me.

ps- I know it's ok to not like alcohol and it's not a necessity to drink. It's not peer pressure, it's just I wonder what else I can try on special occasions!

Disaronno
Frangelico
Limoncello
Cointreau

Passoa, sherry, flavoured gins (candy floss, parma violet and unicorn ones are all sweet).

I know you said no to cider but have you tried fruit ones? Strawberry and lime is very sweet.

Mead is made from honey so is sweet although sort of similar to wine so might not be your thing.

You can make your own flavoured vodkas in most sweet flavours, skittles and mars bar were popular. Sugar based sweets just need to be left to dissolve in vodka and shaken occasionally. I think chocolate based ones might need melting, there are lots of recipes online.

TeapotCollection · 15/11/2023 14:31

OP I know you’ve said baileys doesn’t work but please give the chocolate one a try. I can’t guarantee you’ll like it but if you don’t find that sweet I’ll show my fat arse in Tesco

My Dh has a sweet tooth and loves Malibu

AgnesX · 15/11/2023 14:37

Drambuie is sweet although the taste mightn't suit?

Definitely stay away from Aperol spritz!
Vodka with cranberry and orange juice (sex on the beach) is good.
Could try those cans of cocktails in shops, strawberry daiquiri, pina colada, pornstr martini etc
Do you like Malibu? Malibu and pineapple juice is fruity

Malibu and pineapple is lovely and sweet and I don't really like many sweet drinks but reminiscent of a pina colada! You said you like drinks with lots of lemon but they are quite sour?

Psychoticbreak · 15/11/2023 14:44

@Badromancer peach schnapps and bitter lemon. Trust me.

WitchyPoos · 15/11/2023 14:52

I like the raspberry Smirnoff. It's nice with just lemonade but also mix it with Fanta fruit twist too, it's like my own cocktail 🤣

TheHawkisHowling · 15/11/2023 14:58

I'm exactly the same as you. My favourite is a french martini.

I'd recommend the cocktail tinnies from M&S (it must be M&S - the other brands aren't good). They have loads of flavours to try.

For wine, I'd try a Macon Village.

Thank you. I wish I liked wine but it just doesn't taste good. Sauvignon Blanc tastes like Vinegar to me.

Completely forgot about Archers! I feel 18 again..adds to list haha!

You missed the part where it's "late harvest". That means it's sweet. Grin. I would never recommend regular sauvignon blanc to someone who only likes sweet drinks! You'd gag!

Sparkletastic · 15/11/2023 15:13

Long Island Iced Tea will get you there quickly

OliveHenry · 15/11/2023 15:19

Pedro Ximenez - it's like drinking fruit cake! Also delicious on ice cream :-)

Martini Asti is a lovely sweet sparkling wine, might be worth trying. Martini Bianco with lemonade is like syrup ! ( one of my go to drinks!) you can add fruit flavours to it to change it up a bit if you want. If you like aniseed Pernod with blackcurrant works. Amaretto with cola tastes like cherry coke.

Just what I was going to say. I also can’t stand any kind of wine (port, red, rose, sweet, sparkling…) but I adore PX it’s so sweet and lovely. I particularly like the brand Nectar.

MammaWeasel · 15/11/2023 16:43

I am like you, OP, and I love neat chambord, and also I seem to remember enjoying an alcoholic Dandelion and burdock once, but I'm not sure where to buy that.

CMOTDibbler · 15/11/2023 16:45

After my teenager discovered Pina Colada in cans, I have had the odd one as too sweet for me usually, but delish. I'm another Archers and lemonade as a teenager, but they are lovely (Archers ice cream was one of my late mums specialities).
PX is amazing, like drinking mince pies, and Tokaj is a dessert wine thats super aromatic and sweet.

ginasevern · 15/11/2023 17:50

If you like coffee, one of my favourite liquers is Kahlua. It's a lot sweeter than Tia Maria and, imo, lush.

Badromancer · 15/11/2023 22:28

So many suggestions, I can’t wait to try 😅😅 some things I’ve never heard of! Thanks everyone

I do like lemon too & don’t mind a bit of sour (not too bitter though) if you have any suggestions?

Try the Hotel Chocolat range of drinks. They are 3 chocolate and vodka based creams with chocolate, mint chocolate and coffee and chocolate versions.

SgtJuneAckland · 15/11/2023 22:36

Creme de cassis is like alcoholic ribena , nice in prosecco/cremant/champagne
Amaretto with coke tastes like Dr pepper
Port in blue wkd tastes like vimto
Midori is an interesting one bright green melon liqueur, drink with lemonade.
Or put a packet of skittles in a bottle of vodka give it a shake a few times a day and in a week you'll have skittles vodka
Creme de menth, creme de cacao, vodka , milk, cream, ice cream, chocolate sauce, blend fruit the most calorific sweet alcoholic milkshake you can think of (minty mudslide)
Grenadine sweetens any cocktail with fruit juice
Spiced rum with pineapple a squeeze of fresh lime is nice, top with soda if you want it to be more refreshing
I actually don't like sweet drinks but worked in bars as a student!

Limoncello?

ErrolTheDragon · 15/11/2023 22:41

Re dessert wines, probably the classic is Sauternes, but it's expensive (usually sold by the half bottle) so may not be worth the experiment.

justasking111 · 15/11/2023 22:46

I saw some Cherry B in Iceland last week. That brought back some memories. 😂. It's sweet

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 15/11/2023 22:48

Amaretto! Very sweet and absolutely delicious. I don't even normally like sweet drinks, but Amaretto is amazing!
