What's amazing from M&S?

Doing my first Ocado shop. Used to love browsing M&S food but haven't been able to get out for a few months due to bad health and finding it hard to choose what's delicious online. Particularly keen on things that are easy to cook/ready to eat, feel like something special, things you can only get from M&S or that are especially nice vs normal supermarket food. I've ordered some of the light up Christmas biscuit tins which I'll put out when we start on the decorating.

Any great tips?

I'm afraid as there are only 2 of us now I do 75% of my shop there- but I don't buy any sweet stuff and little in the way of snacks- we eat really well with a £60 M&S shop and about £30 at either sainsburys or Waitrose

The Thai and Chinese boxes are good... cheaper than takeaway!

Another vote for Mexican layered dip.
Onion bhajis.
Percy Pigs.

@PeaceBreaksOut
I just find it suspicious as there is an M&S specific thread every few weeks. There was one about jumpers, another about dresses and one about underwear.
Even when they're negative, the amount of views and interactions the threads get is unreal. If it is their marketing team - it's quite clever. No one reads emails anymore. This is a good way of keeping M&S in the consciousness of middle class Britain.

Somebody mentioned their pizzas. I had some recently for the first time and thought they were horrible. Really bland with soggy vegetables.

I am a bit late but if anyone else reads this M&S dark chocolate and ginger florentines.. Best florentines ever.. fact I don't even like ginger much but I make an exception for these.

Ha, I don't work for M&S and I didn't name change for this thread - feel free to advanced search me, I've posted for tips on various things the last 6 months since I've been ill and have had lots of good advice on lots of things.

Thank you for all the recommendations everyone. My basket is currently standing at £200 so might need to do some pruning!

@Shakesapear, I don’t know how much you’re on mumsnet but there are these threads all the time about various different supermarkets- Aldi & Lidl come up a lot, Waitrose, Co-op. There are also threads about what to buy when you’re on holiday in Spain, France, America etc. It’s not specific to M&S. I think it’s just that a lot of Mumsnetters spend a lot of time in supermarkets! I find them very comforting.

cleaninglady123 · 13/11/2023 11:47

I love the prawn cocktails they do.

Crikeyalmighty · 13/11/2023 11:52

@Ninastibbefan I was going to say this too

Aldi and Lidl threads in particular

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/11/2023 17:51

We had their cauliflower and broccoli cheese pies for dinner last night, and I can confirm they are very nice. Expensive though - ours were yellow ticketed.

livvymc · 15/11/2023 20:36

Their salted caramel profiteroles are my favourite thing ever 😍 hate that they’re only available at this time of year!
Other things we like:
frozen pain au chocolat
frozen sweet potato fries
bubble and squeak cakes
tempura chicken tenders
fresh peppercorn sauce
redcurrant puffs
burger sauce is the best I’ve tried

LindorDoubleChoc · 15/11/2023 20:40

I like their Kenyan ground coffee, the small sliced wholemeal loaf from the bakery, tutti frutti grapes, and spiced fruit buns with icing on the top.

Mumaway · 15/11/2023 20:42

Mexican layered dip
Moroccan houmous
Buttermilk chicken mini fillets (fresh)

Pozz · 22/11/2023 22:54

Walnut whips
Halloween walnut whips with raspberry squirts
Coleslaw
Superfood salad
Double chocolate ginger biscuits

😋

Honestly not really anything! I stuck with ocado for a year or so after leaving Waitrose and partnering with M&S and was just very disappointed. I don’t like buying preprepared food with a lot of additives/preservatives/palm oil and so much of what M&S has to offer was ready meals. Even a lot of their meat was pre seasoned!
I gave up on them a while ago.

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 22/11/2023 23:02

My suggestion is their frozen sweetcorn. It tastes MILES better than anything tinned.

I do hope there’s no palm oil in those…

Appalonia · 22/11/2023 23:02

Florentine s, yum but TOO moreish!
Goats cheese and caramelized onion tart, bloody gorgeous.

M and S Best lasagne (approx £9.50) - often in meal deals

Chocolate Swiss roll

This lasagne is better than most Gastropub lasagnes

momsybear · 22/11/2023 23:11

Lemon biscuits with white chocolate chips (normally hate white chocolate!)

jd88123 · 22/11/2023 23:35

Can't believe anyone has said the Eton mess dessert pots! Amazing. Love their coleslaw and their gluten free quiche Lorraine too. Pretty good gluten free range there.
Swiss truffles are lovely too.

We actually had this for the first time with our dinner tonight. I always buy frozen but it was nice and the kernels were so much bigger than other frozen ones we've had. Even my DC who can be hit or miss with any food (and avoids almost all veggies) ate the good sized portion I served up.

Ipadannie · 23/11/2023 00:30

Definitely the best lasagne. And DS is delighted with this thread. He makes the almond and pistachio biscuits at work :-)

blitzen · 19/12/2023 21:10

Thanks for this thread. Currently enjoying the pistachio cookies from my ocado delivery today. Can't wait for the rest xx
