I saw the Toast thread about the brand and was a bit disappointed that it’s not about various toast toppings ideas. So here’s a toast toast thread, what’s your fav toast topping? Toastie ideas also welcomed

Mine are -

simple butter with extra salt
condensed milk
welsh rarebit
simple ham and cheese toastie

What’s yours?

There has never, ever, been a better thread on MN than this one. 😍

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/08/2023 21:42

Peanut butter with honey is now something I need to try.

muchalover · 01/08/2023 22:06

Toast is my favourite topic 😃

Beans,
Cheese,
Beans and cheese,
Egg - any kind.
Peanut butter
Marmite
Ham (veggie ham)
Home made gooseberry jam (I buy it at markets)
Raspberry jam
Butter
Banana,
Cinnamon toast is glorious
Lime marmalade
Thick cut orange marmalade
Brown sugar,
Biscoff spread

As a child, my siblings and I would eat brown sugar sandwiches, vinegar sandwiches and rich tea or digestive biscuit sandwiches.

Toast with salt sprinkled on the top
Toast with cheese and HP sauce.
Toast with Cheese and Red onion with lots of salt.
Toast with cheese and pickled onions/cabbage.
Beans on toast with yep cheese.

I love cheese.

slithytoveisascientist · 01/08/2023 22:14

Cream cheese
Beans
Cheese
Welsh rarebit
Poached / scrambled / fried eggs
Honey
Lemon curd

Butter spread on cold toast, topped with a slice of ham, some sliced banana and a sprinkle of Maldon sea salt flakes

Butter on cold toast, peanut butter topped with sliced banana and a sprinkle of Maldon sea salt flakes

Tinned mackerel in spicy tomato sauce on cold buttered toast

Pate on cold buttered toast topped with some marmalade

Or just a slice with honey and a slice with Marmite

Sometimes, just a slice of toast with butter is what's needed.

longtompot · 01/08/2023 22:25

But @Totallyconfusedperson I thought the same when I clicked on the other 'Toast' thread. Very disappointed

UsernamePain · 01/08/2023 22:35

PB &J. Has to be crunchy peanut butter though

Drews · 01/08/2023 22:35

I still mourn the loss of Heinz Toast Toppers.

Tilllly · 01/08/2023 22:44

Me too

Marmite and tomatoes. Bliss !

OMGitsnotgood · 01/08/2023 23:38

Peanut butter and mashed banana

Cream cheese and jam - like having cheesecake for breakfast

Tomato ketchup, ham, a slice of pineapple, topped with cheese then grilled

A game changer for me (from a MN post i think) was to add salt and pepper to buttered toast before slicing into 'soldiers' and dipping in soft boiled eggs - much easier and tastier than adding the salt and pepper to the egg

A weird one I like is cream cheese and lime marmalade, kinda like cheesecake on toast.

One of my favourites is cream cheese and lemon curd. Agree its almost like cheesecake.

scoobysnaxx · 02/08/2023 00:19

Ham and cheese toastie

Cheese and tomato on toast

Classic thick white with butter and marmite

Sourdough/ciabatta toasted with pesto, sliced tomatoes and a little salt

HeadacheEarthquake · 02/08/2023 00:20

Strong cheddar with fresh tomato and black pepper!! Makes my morning

scoobysnaxx · 02/08/2023 00:21

Oh and guacamole on sourdough/ciabatta.

Plain old avo on toast is quite boring.

But proper homemade guac on crunchy sourdough/ciabatta is Devine

scoobysnaxx · 02/08/2023 00:22

Oh and melted brie/Camembert on toast too! Maybe even with a little chilli jam dip

Firsttimecaller · 02/08/2023 00:34

Sweet: Peanut butter, honey and banana
Peanut butter & grape jam
Real butter (cold & slabby) with blackcurrant preserve
Butter & lemon curd
Always thick sourdough OR malted bloomer
Soft butter, brown sugar & ground cinnamon combined into a grainy spread
Savoury grated cheddar combined with crumbly Lancashire cheese dotted with Oxford sauce grilled.

MrsClatterbuck · 02/08/2023 00:43

Marmalade
Pate with onion or similar relish
Cheese on toast
Mashed banana
Avocado with poached egg and chilli flakes or pickled red onion.
Poached egg
If dh is making a sandwich he always toasts the bread
Years ago you could buy cinnamon flavoured sugar which we had growing up.
I also love Heinz beans with the pork sausages

MrsClatterbuck · 02/08/2023 00:44

Also love lemon curd

Totallyconfusedperson · 02/08/2023 01:04

Actually forgot about one of my absolute favourite dishes - French toast. Is that still toast?

OP posts:
Underminer · 02/08/2023 01:14

I am a toast addict. I’m going to try some of these combos from the thread.

My top favourites are:

Cinnamon Sugar. We make our own cinnamon sugar which is just ground cinnamon plus sugar in a jar, mixed up and ready to spoon on toast.

French Toast with fresh fruit.

Peanut butter, cheese and mango chutney

and one of the best discoveries recently is Maple Butter on toast. There is a company called Moose that makes it, it is so delicious. Give it a try if you like sweet buttery toast.

Titicacacandle · 02/08/2023 08:38

Mountstevens cafes used to do the best cinnamon toast.

Completely forgot about French Toast! Yes it has to count, it says toast in the title although technically it is fried and not toasted.

Cinnamon sugar is just cinnamon and sugar mixed together. It's really nice on rice pudding and in porridge 😋

ODFOx · 02/08/2023 13:36

Tinned spaghetti. My guilty pleasure!

Growlybear83 · 02/08/2023 13:48

If I have toast then it has to be very lightly toasted and then completely cold before I put unsalted butter on and a bit of marmite.
