I saw the Toast thread about the brand and was a bit disappointed that it’s not about various toast toppings ideas. So here’s a toast toast thread, what’s your fav toast topping? Toastie ideas also welcomed

Mine are -

simple butter with extra salt
condensed milk
welsh rarebit
simple ham and cheese toastie

What’s yours?

Lots of marmite.

Peanut butter.

Banana.

Or a combination of the above.

Butter, thinly sliced apple, brown sugar and cinnamon, then retoasted.

Or my current favourite St Dalfour's Mirabelle Plum Spread. So rich and fruity... that's "supper" sorted...

The Apple one sounds so yum!

Butter with some nutritional yeast sprinkled on top is my current favourite. Savory and delicious!

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 01/08/2023 20:06

A weird one I like is cream cheese and lime marmalade, kinda like cheesecake on toast.

ScrummyDiva2 · 01/08/2023 20:07

Nutella with banana squished on top! Yummy!

Norfolkungood · 01/08/2023 20:09

Leave the toast to go cold and put coleslaw on it no butter or margarine 😋

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 01/08/2023 20:10

Toast left to slightly cool so I can spread a good layer of real salted butter on and it doesn't melt and go soggy, then a nice layer of Brussels pate.

A place near my office wins the best toastie challenge.

The Roast Melt: Thick cut fresh white bread, buttered on the outside before toasting and filled with Roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce & cheese, served with a slab of pork crackling.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/08/2023 20:14

Mushrooms - cooked until they're all brown and wrinkled like tiny shrunken heads

The above, topped with a cremated fried egg and served with HP sauce on the side

Avocado, lemon juice, chilli flakes

Plum jam with peanut butter

Toasted bread filled with cheese, beetroot, cucumber, lettuce and gherkins to make a delicious sandwich

Thighdentitycrisis · 01/08/2023 20:16

Banana, marmite, salted butter
crunchy peanut butter and salad cream
butter and thick cut marmalade
tapenade
fried or poached egg, marmite, ketchup

I’m low carbs currently so am missing all of these.

Salted butter, spread fast enough so it's melted, then bovril.

Bear with me: toastx2, buttered, cut into aprox 1 inch squares, with half a tin of beans, and grated cheese on top. If you pile the toast right, you can get pretty crisp toast.

(I'm about to get chucked off the thread): single sided toast, with cheese on the other side, grilled til bubbling, with a tin of tomatoes.

Buttered toast, with scrambled eggs - cooked in butter.

If you have good bread tho (and DSs sourdough is hard to beat), keep it simple with loads of salted butter.

martinisforeveryone · 01/08/2023 20:27

@CatsOnTheChair I can go with most of that.

I like my toast savoury.

It's pretty much the ultimate fast food and best comfort food really isn't it.

Thickly sliced white bloomer; granary; sourdough; speciality bread with olives or even a date and walnut bread.

Mostly with grilled grated cheese to be honest.

Apart from cheese I don't like stuff on my toast, I like the toast kept crisp on the side and then the beans or eggs and so on, on the side.

What’s yours?

Chilli oil, spring onion and a fried egg. Has to be on sourdough bread though

Chelsea26 · 01/08/2023 20:30

Butter and marmite
butter and marmite and peanut butter
butter and marmite and dairylea
butter and marmite and dairylea and ham
butter, peanut butter and banana

If you happen to be on a balcony in Spain looking out over the sea then butter and marmalade.

(Probably proceeded by a few slices with marmite)

Chelsea26 · 01/08/2023 20:32

Also beans ~on~ toast is an abomination

Ham, cheese, beans, more cheese on a plate - with butter and marmite toast as cutlery

ThisNameHasChanged · 01/08/2023 20:34

Bit boring but I love cold toast with butter and good quality sliced tomatoes with salt and pepper.

Mix of melted mozzarella and cheese with jalapenos

I also like the white chocolate and hazelnut spread from Morrisons, it's like the inside of a kinder Bueno but I can't buy it as I'd eat it straight from the jar.

Harebell22 · 01/08/2023 20:34

I bloody love toast, but sadly I feel much healthier if I limit my bread intake. That said, I will never completely give up my favourite toast and things, such as -

  • crunchy sliced sourdough with cheese grilled on top, sprinkle of siracha
  • toasted rye bread spread with butter and honey, even better if the bread has caraway seeds in
  • thick sliced farmhouse white, toasted and with butter spread once cool, with big pile of scrambled eggs on the side
  • creamed garlic mushrooms on toast
  • toast, cool, with butter and a smear of miso, with sliced avocado on top
  • toasted thin bagel with good cream cheese and smoked salmon
  • any toast and peanut butter, sometimes with honey on top

For supper this evening DH made toasted sourdough with nduja spread thinly, topped with wilted spinach and an egg fried in pesto.

I could eat it every day for the rest of my life.

Not sure if that's in the spirit of things - the thread is about toast and a tin of spaghetti hoops would overwhelm the toast.

And it makes the toast go soggy! But I expect it could be redeemed with loads of cheddar melted on top!

Soggy toast is still toast. Soggy in the middle where the hoops have been and crunchy on the edges where they missed. No cheese. And I’m not even sorry!

Cookerhood · 01/08/2023 20:40

I could live on toast, and frequently do
My current favourite bread for toast is Gail's seeded sourdough, but frankly any bread will do.

  • Butter & marmite
  • Butter & crunchy peanut butter
  • Avocado
  • Butter & Poached egg
  • Cheese and so on Toast is usually savoury as far as I'm concerned. A doorstep of fresh white crusty bread if I want jam (& butter of course)
TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 01/08/2023 20:42

I frequently do too, either toast or noodles.

Hoppinggreen · 01/08/2023 20:43

Sourdough, Le President spreadable butter and good quality set honey

Hidingawaytoday · 01/08/2023 20:46

Butter, marmite, and poached eggs (runny yolk) is my favourite meal of all time.
Nutella and butter - sweet and salty

Cheese and ham toasties are always good, especially if you mix some dijon mustard with mayonnaise and spread that on the bread after you've buttered it 😋

Need to try some of these other suggestions!

ODFOx · 01/08/2023 20:50

Poached egg on marmite wholemeal toast is hard to beat.
Hot buttered toast with cold cheddar is delicious.
Butter and roasted/fried tomatoes (I leave the skins).
Beans and cheese.

Stop it. I want this now

HurdyGurdy19 · 01/08/2023 20:52

Toasted seeded bread, allowed to cool. Spread with Lurpak (I don't care - I love it), then:

Marmite
My home made lemon curd
Crunchy peanut butter
Set honey

But there are some lovely sounding combinations upthread which I will be trying.

And if toast is served with beans or scrambled egg, then it is on the side and dunked in. Cannot abide soggy toast 😀
