What to do with salmon ?

I know I should eat more fish, but the only thing I can manage is breaded cod.
I do like smoked mackerel, but don’t enjoy the bones, and never quite sure what to do with it.
Please give me your easy, quick, tasty salmon recipes.

Salmon Spaghetti ?

1 Lemon
Chives or Dill (Whatever you prefer)
Cream
Frozen peas or mangetout
A little bit of butter or oil
Onion
Salmon ( spoked or fresh)
Spaghetti
Salt Pepper

Put the Spaghetti on to boil
Chop the onion, sweat in the oil or butter
While the onion is sweating zest and juice the lemon
Add the cream, Dill or chives, lemon juice and zest to the pan with the onion
Add a ladle of pasta after to the pan add the peas or mange tout
Add the salmon

Drain the spaghetti - add to to pan with the cream and salmon and veg

Oooh lush, thanks

@ChilliPixie - that looks so good. Definitely going to make that sometime soon.

Lovely as some of these recipes are I think they are missing a key point for op as she says she’s only ever cooked frozen breaded cod before! I’d hate her to try salmon once and then never again if she misses this step!

scrap the scales off!

fresh salmon is usually sold skin on which these days usually means they havent descaled it either. Eating a scale is worse than getting a bone.

get a sharp knife and see which way the scales lie. You want to scrap in the opposite direction. Like shaving your legs!

@Brendabigbaps most if not all supermarket salmon is sold descaled

Oven baked in foil is a very easy way - PPs have suggested lots of great ideas, I put salmon fillets skin-side down on the foil, pour over a slug of bottled sweet chilli sauce, a grind of black pepper, wrap into a loose parcel then bake for 20 mins at 180C fan. Serve with couscous (pour over the sauce from the foil), and any veg/salad.

Thanks all. Lots of lovely recipes. I’ve got sweet chilli sauce in, so will start there and make my way up.
Kedgeree sounds good. I might make some and mix it in with my packed salad, I’m trying to eat less carbs, so a bit of kedgeree mixed in sounds nice.

You must shopn Waitrose!
Aldi, Lidl, Morrisons & Tesco have all sold me salmon with scales

JingsMahBucket · 24/07/2023 10:46

@Brendabigbaps erm no. Unfortunately there's no Waitrose in my area and I miss it terribly. Just regular Tesco for me usually.

I’ve had salmon with some sweet chilli sauce I had in, and it was lovely ! I’m a convert !
Off to get some teriyaki now.
