Zero alcohol beers

Are there any that don't taste like horse wee? Every week night and Sunday we share a 500 ml bottle of beer before our tea. An apéro if you like. Because one of us has pre-hypertension, we thought we'd try one or two alcohol-free days each week. Tried Doom Bar Zero and Days Alcohol Free Pale Ale. Both: Yuk. They taste like beer that has been boiled until it has a flavour like malty pop. Which is probably exactly what it is. The Doom Bar reminded me a bit of Dandelion and Burdock gone wrong. Are they all like that? I think we should probably try something else than zero-beer, but what?

Erdinger and Brewdog are my favourites, esp Brewdog Elvis Juice AF. Also Brewdogs are only 20 calories per can, yay!

XiCi · 12/06/2023 09:59

I'm going to try the Elvis Juice - that looks right up my street. Love a citrus IPA.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 12/06/2023 10:06

The Erdinger alkolfrie one is ok.
butchered the spelling there but you get the gist

Usedtobecool · 12/06/2023 10:20

Thornbridge Zero Five is really good, used to be called Big Easy. Also another vote for Ghost Ship!

Vinorosso74 · 12/06/2023 10:21

Do you have a decent beer shop near you? One that sells a range from smaller breweries? If so, try there.
We have one near us which has a decent range of alcohol free beers (not a Becks Blue or Heineken 0% in sight).
There's a couple of decent breweries who make non alcoholic beers which I like Brullo/Brulo and Nirvana who do a lovely stout which isn't too heavy but not really ideal on a hot day.

I like Heineken Zero and Brewdog Lost AF. Tried Brew Toon Divernaut AF IPA at the weekend and quite liked it.

I have recently tested every one I could get my hands on and was pleasantly surprised by some. I now love them. My top 3:

San Miguel
Alhambra
Corona

Peroni is also good but hard to get around here.

Heineken tastes too citrusy for me.

WhereIsMyGlasses · 12/06/2023 11:26

Birra Moretti is the only low/free alcohol beer I've tasted that is identical to the alcohol version. Some others are OK but they do taste a little different, some are horrible!

Yep, these are good. You can get a mixed pack which includes these and Hazy Jane. They're all good.

Coming on to say exactly this. I buy the mixed packs, and Nanny State and Punk AF are my favourites.

LegendsBeyond · 12/06/2023 11:32

Agree with Lucky Saint. I also like Bitburger & the Brew Dog ones.

smileannie · 14/06/2023 21:51

We love AF Heineken, especially in a shandy in this hot weather and ice cold
Kopparberg Alcohol Free Pear Cider 500Ml. Tastes just like the real thing IMO.

trying29 · 14/06/2023 21:54

Free dam the non alcoholic version of estrella damming is my favourite. I like becks blue and corona zero. All others are too gassy for me

Twinstudy · 14/06/2023 21:57

Free dam (which is also annoyingly gluten free so gf dh nicks it) and Heineken 0 are the best lagers I've tried.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 14/06/2023 22:01

I like Lucky Saint and Free Damm

non lagers I quite like Ghost Ship

quince2figs · 14/06/2023 23:38

For bog-standard lager - Beck’s Blue, Morretti, Peroni all great.

i really love Leffe Blonde Belgian beer, and thought because there is a high-ish alcohol content, that the low version would not translate. It is slightly sweeter, but other than that, is pretty close, still with that wonderful maltiness. Is 0.0%. Difficult to find though.

Second PP’s recommendation of Drop Bear - they only make alcohol-free beers, and they are incredibly flavoursome, with real bite. I would not know the absence of alcohol unless told.

Sundayscented · 15/06/2023 11:13

Guinness 0%, Heineken 0% and Ghost Ship!

lostinfusion · 15/06/2023 11:16

Becks Blue lager is nice but in terms of Ale we really like Erdinger 0%
