What's a good nibble to have with a glass of wine that's more substantial than a bowl of peanuts, looks like I've made an effort, isn't a full on meal and is easy to do??

Bruschetta? You get ready made topping in a can if you really can't be bothered and just chuck it on toasted ciabatta and drizzle with olive oil.

Iklboo · 19/02/2008 13:48

nickytwotimes · 19/02/2008 13:48

PotPourri · 19/02/2008 13:49

Bruschetta? Get a big ciabbatta (sp?) and some salsa, chutneys, cheese etc and bascially make posh toasted cheese.

sophable

PotPourri · 19/02/2008 13:50

Ooops, cross post with nicky - I was too slow!

Make up wraps and cut into little tiny ones. You could use pre-packed salad and sandwich fillers to fill them

Heathcliffscathy · 19/02/2008 13:50

high five.

TsarChasm · 19/02/2008 13:50

Oh good ideas, thanks! No not a party, just got a couple of friends coming back for a drink after an evening out. I want to make a bit of an effort but not overboard.

great minds, potpourri!

platesmasher · 19/02/2008 13:50

Warm some blinis in the the oven, put a teaspoon of creme fraiche on each one and a small piece of smoked salmon or a king prawn.
We had this at friends recently and it was delicious.

TsarChasm · 19/02/2008 13:52

God I'm hungry now ...

cheese or anchovy straws
buy some puff pastry
roll out
cut in two
between the two sheets grate some parmesan or spread with a little anchovy paste
press the two sheets together and roll thin again with rolling pin
glaze with a beaten egg and cut into fine strips or straws.
bake in oven for 10-15 mins
delish

nailpolish · 19/02/2008 13:53

home made salsa always goes down well

OliviaMumsnet · 19/02/2008 13:54

Kettle chips (or similar) and good quality dips taken out of the packaging and garnished always makes people think you've made more effort than you have (I put a shake of paprika on hummous for e.g.)

TsarChasm · 19/02/2008 13:55

These are lovely ideas thanks everyone. I love this sort of nibbly food.

  • Stuffed eggs
  • Slices of smoked sausage and some mustard to dip them in. Cocktail sticks for eating them with.
  • Baked camembert
  • Tuna mayo on little crackers with half olive on each.
WideWebWitch · 19/02/2008 14:16

quails eggs
get a few boxes of them, depending on how many, hard boil them, then run under cold water
serve with celery salt

or/and ciabatta with olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping

Cappuccino · 19/02/2008 14:18

bettythebuilder · 19/02/2008 14:30

strips of smoked salmon, put some soft cheese like boursin in, and roll them up.

Or sausage rolls.
