Beef mince - inspiration

shouldhavetakenmorenotice · 15/03/2023 08:22

I need to use up some beef mince.

Usually DH cooks in the week and he has a narrow repertoire of pasta, chilli or cottage pie, so I want to do something different.

Any suggestions? I can get to the shops at lunch and I've a pretty well stocked larder.

Thank you

Make them into little thai flavoured patties or moroccan flavoured patties, bake the mince with florets of cauliflower and other veg?

Ive been reading the recipes of Sabrina Ghayour, she focuses mainly on Persian flavours but adapts them and her recipes are fantastic

Tacos
A keema curry - mince, spinach, etc iirc
Home made burgers

Whenever I have an ingredient I need to use up, I go into the BBC Good Food website and do a search on recipes for that ingredient!

Keema

Aha! I have a couple of her books. I'll dig them out.

I got so into cooking during lockdown and since I'm back to commuting I've forgotten so much.

Thanks for the reminder Smile

Dan Dan noodles (Jamie Oliver’s version is amazing).
Stuffed tacos with Mexican rice.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 15/03/2023 08:42

Moroccan meatballs with herby couscous or enchiladas

Harebrain · 15/03/2023 08:46

Add chopped onion and Stilton or another cheese to make burgers. Make them into Meatballs to have in a traybake with peppers, onions & red pesto, (top with slices of garlic bread & torn up Mozarella for the last 10 minutes). Keema Pie from the Pinch of Nom Instagram page. Make a chilli and use it to stuff and bake peppers. These are all favourites of ours.

Oh……and good old mince and dumplings with mash and veg!

dietcokelime · 15/03/2023 08:48

Definitely tacos or a keema curry!!

Baked keema curry with a turmeric potato topping is delicious.

PetitPorpoise · 15/03/2023 08:50

I second tacos or burritos!

Porridgeislife · 15/03/2023 08:50

If you want quick/easy/delicious this pilaf-esque recipe is brilliant, uses only one pot and can usually be made from things you’ve already got in.

Thai basil beef with an egg, essentially a beef mince stir fry with rice and a fried egg! Loads of recipes online

pastabest · 15/03/2023 08:56

I love minced beef and broccoli fried with garlic, ginger, soy, spring onions, honey and some chilli if you like it served with garlic rice. You only need a small amount of mixed beef/sauce though.

This looks very interesting. How come the egg mixture doesnt just run right into the meat mixture and make an omlettey quichy thing. I notice in the picture its like a distinct layer all puffed up on top?

clare8allthepies · 15/03/2023 21:44

I made this last week and my eldest has proclaimed it her new favourite meal of all time! 🤣 We had it again last night, I don’t add any toppings to the dishes and just put them out for people to help themselves to suit the mega fussy small one.

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 15/03/2023 23:08

@bellac11 It pretty much sits on the top of the mince! Its a slightly strange recipe to read - I give you that… but it does work.
The recipe I usually use is Delia Smiths.

mindutopia · 16/03/2023 10:50

Tonight we're having swedish meatballs with mash and green veg.

I usually make them with half beef/half pork mince, but if you just have the beef, you can use just that.
