Cauliflower

I'm not a big fan of cauliflower but bought one anyway, just to see what I could do with it. My mum used it 2 ways - attached and served plain, or in a soup with brocolli.

What do you do with a cauliflower?

It also goes really great in curries.that and brocoli added to a chicken curry👌
Tbh though I'm that person that likes veg as is anytime.so I'd happily have your boiled 😊

Baldieheid · 14/02/2023 19:50

I love most veg, but cauliflower has seams just bored me. It seems to always be watery...
Still, I've loads of ideas now thank you, and I WILL explore it.

As an aside, I just managed to get DH to eat cabbage hidden in a stir fry. I just told him it was chinese leaves and he ate the lot. If I'd said cabbage, the plate would have been shoved away. Cauliflower will wait for another night.

I dollop some plain yogurt on too and have flatbreads or naan.

Lentilweaver · 14/02/2023 20:04

Saute briefly with cumin, ginger, garlic, chilli powder, turmeric, garam masala and amchur/chaat masala if you have any. Roast in oven for 25 minutes at 180. Sprinkle with coriander and lemon juice.

Thanks. I thought about cauli cheese but I csnt see anyone else eating it....its macaroni cheese or death. Roasted sounds really nice though. I've got leftover Korean chicken breast for dinner tonight so I wonder if I could coat florets in panko crumbs, roast it and then have a dipping sauce on the side, sweet chilli maybe.

That sounds delicious

Jadviga · 14/02/2023 20:16

I always make it in a gratin with bechamel sauce.
First cook it in boiling water till you can easily slice through it with a knife. Meanwhile make your bechamel.
Strain the cauliflower, mash it roughly with a fork, mix it with the bechamel sauce. Put it all in a dish with grated cheese on top and cook in oven til the cheese is grilled. It's absolutely delicious, especially in winter.

Cauliflower and chickpea curry

Oblomov23 · 14/02/2023 20:37

I love cauliflower. Roasted. Roasted steaks with paprika or Harissa. Cauliflower, chickpea and roasted sweet potato curry is good.

anomaly23 · 14/02/2023 20:37

Steamed to then be made into cauliflower cheese

Cooked in soup

Roasted in spices as a side dish for curry and leftovers then made into spiced cauliflower soup

eurochick · 14/02/2023 20:40

Roast with some broccoli, in some olive oil and some mix of spices I have to hand. Mix with a packet of cooked lentils or beans. Top with some nuts or crunchy seeds. Serve with hummus for a delicious healthy lunch.

Crumpetdisappointment · 14/02/2023 21:28

roasted and made into a curry
lots of recipes - it is even better the next day

WombatBombat · 14/02/2023 21:42

Spicy cauliflower and halloumi rice one pot.

I grill halloumi and steam cauliflower, fry off an onion & microwave one of those bags of rice. Then shove it in a pot with curry powder and tumeric, add peas and baby spinach.

Hairy bikers do a lovely cauliflower and coconut curry.

ZenNudist · 14/02/2023 22:13

I love cauliflower:
cauliflower cheese is a classic.

try macaroni cheese with cauliflower in it, I usually do Broccoli as well.

Roasted with anything spicy (olive oil and cheap lidl piri piri sauce is a fave, or just roasted at a pinch.

Rarely just steamed plain but i have been known to use it as a substitute for rice in curry when being healthy but i skip the stage of making cauliflower rice.
Roast and add to curry

Yesterday I Roasted it with a mix of chilli oil and garlic oil, also roasted peppers and red onion in olive oil. Then today i mixed the resulting veg with cous cous. I ate it tonight with greek salad of feta tomato cucumber and olives. Splashed with more olive oil and lifted with a dash of balsamic vinegar. Yum.

dishyrishi · 14/02/2023 22:19

Roasted

In macaroni cheese

As rice

Fried with spices like a steak

In curry

Very versatile

There are lots of good Italian recipes for pasta with cauliflower with anchovies and sultanas. Surprisingly delicious. Like this one:

MmePoppySeedDefage · 14/02/2023 22:21

Oops the recipe we use uses sultanas: that uses currants. Very similar anyway.

EyesOnThePies · 14/02/2023 22:24

This is really good (I use half the amount of tomato)
