Help me out, MNers!

(By "inactivity", I mean the oven, not me!)

Yes of course. What do you think happens when people are on a long holiday - buy a new oven?

mateysmum · 08/02/2023 15:59

Why on earth wouldn't it be safe? Provided your electrics are safe and you haven't left mouldering fat/food in the oven it will be fine.

TangledWebOfDeception · 08/02/2023 16:00

What? Why on earth wouldn't it be??

Some people only use their oven once or twice a year.

I honestly thought everyone did this. It's the reason I had to stop going away. The back garden is full of ovens.

TangledWebOfDeception · 08/02/2023 16:02

@AutumnCrow Grin Grin

@WDWU1802 It's perfectly fine!

Fuckingfuckssake · 08/02/2023 16:02

@AutumnCrow you definitely won Mumsnet today.

HiccupHorrendousHaddock · 08/02/2023 16:03

What on earth do you think could be an issue with that? Ovens don’t go off like old milk.

FatSealSmugSoup · 08/02/2023 16:04

Fuck. I only use the bottom oven for Xmas dinner. Do I need a new cooker?

WDWU1802 · 08/02/2023 16:05

Ahahaha, thanks you lot, feeling suitably idiotic but thoroughly reassured. Supper, here I come!

OP posts:
TangledWebOfDeception · 08/02/2023 16:07

Heh @WDWU1802 I'm still wondering what on earth made you think it wouldn't be okay!

And more importantly, what will you be making??

watchfulwishes · 08/02/2023 16:07

Enjoy your dinner Grin

WDWU1802 · 08/02/2023 18:01

UPDATE:
Right, SO. Two of you jinxed me. Someone made a comment about ovens going off like old milk, and someone else said something about leaving old food/fat in there. Somehow I managed to combine the two by forgetting I'd stored a carton of UHT milk right at the bottom of the oven when there was nowhere else for it to go. So now not only are my spicy bean burgers ruined, so's my oven. REALLY not my day (.../week/month/year/lifetime).

How the fuck do I clean this and make it usable again? sob

OP posts:
WDWU1802 · 08/02/2023 18:02

...and am I going to die from the fumes in the meantime?

OP posts:
BamBamBilla · 08/02/2023 18:06

How could you miss a carton of milk in the oven, did you not look before turning it on?

WDWU1802 · 08/02/2023 18:07

@BamBamBilla Thanks, I'll try that

@BamBamBilla

i don't look in my oven befire I turn it on. Why would you? <unless you're the kind of loon that stores UHT milk in it!!>

watchfulwishes · 08/02/2023 18:19

Oh that sounds pretty shit @WDWU1802 ! Brew for you

Garman · 08/02/2023 19:23

Surely uht milk could go anywhere, it definitely didn't have to go in the oven.

YesitsBess · 08/02/2023 19:28

Hahahahahaaaaaaaa.

I like how this thread has a condensed amount of WTF per few posts. We now have melted invisible milk and ruined spicy bean burgers.

ONWARD! MORE OF THIS NONSENSE IMMEDIATELY!

@WDWU1802 I'm sorry about your burgers. And your milk.

I replace mine every month just to be on the safe side.

Plenty of Pink Stuff paste and scrub, then have the oven on with nothing in it to “cook off” the rest of the fumes with the window open

jacult · 08/02/2023 19:37

What? I think my painkillers are too strong. The first post was bonkers, and the updates are even more so! I can understand turning the oven on to preheat, but how do you not notice the smell or the milk in the oven when you opened it up to put the burgers in?

ohyouknowwhatshername · 08/02/2023 19:38

Moonlightsonatas · 08/02/2023 19:32

I replace mine everytime I change my sheets. So every 3 months.

FenghuangHoyan · 08/02/2023 19:45

Your oven isn't ruined. Mr Muscle oven cleaner will get it clean. I used to use it a lot in the last when I had to get ovens sparkling .
