Normally I'd do mash - but got a non dairy guest.

You can make mash non-dairy. Use olive oil…

Luckingfovely · 21/11/2022 14:18

Chuck minature baby potatoes in the casserole for the last hour and have a one-pot dish.

Otherwise - rice. Not any form of undairy potatoes!

Luckingfovely · 21/11/2022 14:19

(Unless olive oil - good shout @Flockameanie )!

dementedpixie · 21/11/2022 14:20

Or use non dairy milk in the mash

endofthelinefinally · 21/11/2022 14:20

What do you mean by non dairy starch? Do you mean gluten free? In which case I would do gluten free pasta, or if you mean non egg, I would do rice or wide ribbon rice noodles.

I do mash with olive oil and oat milk for my vegan family.

She means without milk or butter
You could substitute non dairy milk and butter or use olive oil

averythinline · 21/11/2022 14:22

Fab bread...

greaterscott · 21/11/2022 14:23

I'd do roasties

Twizbe · 21/11/2022 14:24

Mash made with no dairy spread. It's what we do in our dairy free house

Xiaoxiong · 21/11/2022 15:46

Egg noodles with olive oil. I prefer them to potatoes, with beef stew!

ShellsOnTheBeach · 21/11/2022 15:47

Quinoa!

namechange3394 · 21/11/2022 15:49

Just use plant based butter/milk in your mash?

The flora plant butter is what we use in mash and it's fine.

Yes, this👍

Got2besoon · 21/11/2022 16:07

We use vegan butter, oat milk, vegan cheese and nutmeg for our vegan mash.

Hadn't heard of using olive oil so will try this out next time :)

Basmati rice would also go nicely

Notsympatheticenough · 21/11/2022 16:36

Is olive oil mash nice? - I have had it but it's been half and half butter and olive oil. And was just ace.

I always like rice and green beans with BB.

BookedOut · 21/11/2022 16:42

You don’t need to buy non dairy spread, just use mayonnaise to make the mash creamy. Do check it’s not the low fat sort with skimmed milk powder in, though. It should
just be eggs and oil.

lokabrenna · 21/11/2022 16:45

Serve with roasties and celeriac purée (takes ages to make but amazing with beef)? Then you still have a mash texture thing and everything is gf.

SundayAtDevilDirt · 21/11/2022 16:49

Mash with naturli butter (plant based but tastes most like the real thing) and oat milk. Oat milk is great in coffee too.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 21/11/2022 16:52

Dumplings....

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 21/11/2022 16:53

Or crusty bread
Or both

bilbodog · 21/11/2022 16:58

Or do oven roasted potatoes - leave skin on but chop into chunks, toss in oil, garlic and herbs and roast for about 30 mins depending on size.
