What to do with a bag of sprouts

Pyjamagame · 24/10/2022 19:06

Have a random bag of sprouts to use up. Husband hates them, kids neutral, I don't mind. I'm looking for the ultimate recipe to change minds and win over stomachs.

I'm not binning them - food cannot be wasted.

Roast them with some feta cheese - amazing

add paprika for the adults

BEAM123 · 24/10/2022 19:10

Shred them.and use them as cabbage in a stir fry.

Roast with bacon and roast potatoes, the best way to eat sprouts in my opinion

Roast sprout with grated Parmesan, garlic and potatoes….

AuntieMaggie · 24/10/2022 19:12

Agree with roasting - olive oil, salt and pepper and until they're a bit charred!

Anniissa · 24/10/2022 19:12

cut each one into two or three slices. Dice up some bacon and fry until starting to crisp, add sliced sprouts and lightly stir fry with bacon. Can then add a dash of cream if you have it. Instead of bacon you could also use diced chorizo.

Par boil. Blanche. Add to creme fraiche and feta. Oven until melted.

MissPoldark · 24/10/2022 19:14

Similar to the stir fry idea… sprout pad Thai

ThreeB · 24/10/2022 19:16

Did them in melted chocolate and put them out for the trick or treaters 🤣

OrangePomander · 24/10/2022 19:20

Slice and serve raw. Hugh FW has a nice recipe for sprout, apple and cheddar salad

workingeverysingkeday · 24/10/2022 19:21

I'd probably just eat them all

FlowerArranger · 24/10/2022 19:22

Because children shouldn't have paprika 🤔

toastofthetown · 24/10/2022 20:09

Just roasted with salt and pepper is delicious. My current vegetable obsession.

For more of a recipe, this Brussels sprouts thoran is simple and very good.

BuwchGochGota · 24/10/2022 20:10

Roast them with olive oil and balsamic vinegar

Pyjamagame · 24/10/2022 20:33

Wow, thank you so much everyone. Some stunning ideas to consider. I might convert the husband afterall. Will report back.

This!!!

TheRookie · 24/10/2022 20:37

Well I've just added Brussel sprouts, feta cheese and creme fraiche to my Asda order 😅

I like a vegetable gratin, cheese sauce, leeks, Brussels, brocolli, bake until bubbling! 👌🏻

lannistunut · 24/10/2022 20:39

Yes roast them or treat as cabbage and use in stir fry.

pimlicoanna · 24/10/2022 20:40

Roast with blue cheese

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/10/2022 20:44

I've also got a bag to use, because I forgot to peel them yesterday until it was too late.

If I wanted to roast them with shallots and new potatoes, would I shove them all in at the same time, or start the potatoes off for a while first? And then when should cheese enter the proceedings?

BeetFeet · 24/10/2022 20:54

thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/meera-sodhas-sprout-nasi-goreng/ she also does a lovely sprout curry

242Mummy · 24/10/2022 23:38

Or brussel sprouts soup? This one is delicious: thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/brussel-sprout-soup-with-candied-bacon-and-roasted-hazelnuts/

(I don't bother with candied bacon or roasted hazelnuts!)
