Anchor v Lurpak 😩

Forgive me for I have sinned, I bought Anchor spreadable because it was cheaper. Now my penance is that I have to eat it 😩

I prefer Anchor.
I'm missing the point completely, I know. Lurpak are having a laugh....750g instead of 1kg and they've upped the price too.

KangarooKenny · 09/10/2022 17:30

Because Lurpak is so much better IMO.

President spreadable is the way to go.

7Worfs · 09/10/2022 17:34

My favourite taste-wise is President, but I moved on to Netherend, I want to pay British farmers.

HighlandPony · 09/10/2022 17:43

I buy blocks of grahams or lidls own Ayrshire butter in foil packs because it’s cheaper and tastier. I don’t keep it in the fridge either

CatHatSat · 09/10/2022 17:44

Anchor (and Kerry Gold) tastes rancid to me.

My preferred butter is President, then Lurpack or own brand.

Never Anchor or Kerry Gold Envy (not envy)

MeghansBitch · 09/10/2022 17:45

Anchor all the way for me, lurpack 🤮

PriamFarrl · 09/10/2022 17:45

Why do people buy spreadable butter? Just get a butter dish and keep it on the side. Even over the summer my butter kept perfectly.

dementedpixie · 09/10/2022 17:46

We just buy own brand butter

dementedpixie · 09/10/2022 17:46

And yes, it lives in a butter dish on the worktop

Cookerhood · 09/10/2022 17:46

Buy a block of butter - much nicer, whether you like the anchor type flavour or the lurpak type flavour. You can keep it out all year in a butter dish & it's spreadable. Cheaper too.

Soontobe60 · 09/10/2022 17:50

Yep, own brand butter purchaser here, in a butter dish next to the toaster!
Why would you buy the soft stuff, which has oil in it?
just bought 6 packs of Sainsbury’s butter @ £1.45 a pack with nectar offer.

TooMinty · 09/10/2022 17:50

If you like Lurpak then just buy Lidl Danepak. Virtually identical and much cheaper (although price has gone up recently...)

MissyB1 · 09/10/2022 17:51

I buy the Aldi version of anchor and we all love it! I grew up on anchor though.

Defiantlynot41 · 09/10/2022 17:52

Netherend is lock to me and I but it when I can - or Lidl South West butter when I can't

EerilyDevilled · 09/10/2022 17:53

Lurpak for me. But we tend to buy Sainsburys block butter and keep it on the side apart from in the height of summer when it melts.

ClementWeather · 09/10/2022 18:46

I buy spreadable because my cat is a dick who would happily break into a butter dish and eat it.

Baldieheid · 09/10/2022 18:51

Yep, cat thieves (3 of them) in this house too, hence the need to keep it in the fridge. I wonder if I could get a heavy ceramic butter dish though, one that's too heavy for them to push along till it falls off the worktop and smashes? I do prefer real butter....

Just keep it in a cupboard?

TheChosenTwo · 09/10/2022 21:56

We keep proper butter in a ceramic butter dish in a cupboard. Sometimes in the winter it’s a bit hard and 10 seconds in a microwave is enough to just about soften the top. It’s a small price to pay for proper butter rather than any spreadable and somewhat (imo) vastly inferior margarine.

Exactly the same.

Bedsheets4knickers · 09/10/2022 22:18

Must admit i eyed up the block butter today . I didn't buy it because I don't have a butter dish so that would cost me more

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 09/10/2022 22:19

Lurpak or president. Never anchor!

GreenFly56 · 09/10/2022 22:32

Blocks of lurpack here

AllLopsided · 09/10/2022 23:30

I moved abroad and lost the taste for English/Irish butter, which tastes too salty now for me. So my vote is for President or local supermarket semi-salted. It's gone up from 3.95 to 4.55 for 500g in the last few months though Shock

Always chop off a chunk at a time and keep in a dish on the worktop. It turns to slurry in summer so I just put less out.
