Postman has just delivered this to me from Amazon. First impression is good. I think if you like his style and other books, then you'll be happy with this one.

notnowbernard · 25/01/2008 11:42

Love his way of cooking.

Can't stand anything else about him.

HIs looks are the last thing to wind me up, tbh...

It's the bloody preaching that does my head in!

notnowbernard · 25/01/2008 11:44

(btw, nailpolish - the meatballs were great the other night, cheers for your input! )

mazzystar · 25/01/2008 11:44

not as good as jamie's dinners imo recipes a bit repetitious
its a beautifully produced book though

nailpolish · 25/01/2008 11:49

oh notnowbernard, thats great!

I keep being on the verge of buying the new one and leafing through it and deciding to get it another day. It always seems to fall open at beetroot or rabbit or something else I know dh won't eat.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 25/01/2008 11:59

Jamie's Dinners is his least posh. It's vg IMHO.

NomDePlume · 25/01/2008 12:08

@ the venison and dauphinoise thing he did last night.

Both DH and I agree that we must try that one.

Iota · 25/01/2008 12:10

we have it, have only done the BBQ pork ribs so far. (verdict: nice but a bit of a faff)

florenceuk · 25/01/2008 12:19

DS said he would try leek pasta on the basis of last week! Although he was most keen on kebabs cooked on a dinky BBQ stove. I am thinking of getting it but is there too much gardening (I have given up on gardening after slugs ate all my mint and the squirrels got my tomatoes!)

nailpolish · 25/01/2008 12:21

yes! NDP

i thought that too

ok havent got jamies dinners - will consider taht first, thank you

Kathyis6incheshigh · 05/02/2008 14:00

Resurrecting Nailpolish's thread because I still can't decide whether to get this.

Any views?

PippiCalzelunghe · 05/02/2008 14:15

jamie's italy is good and so is Cook with Jamie - great simple yummie recipes. not sure 100% about jamie at home yet.

Oliveoil · 05/02/2008 14:16

we bought it to make his 4 hour shoulder of lamb (which was AMAZING)

tons of other recipes in there but does waffle on about growing veg which is a waste of time for me

Kathyis6incheshigh · 05/02/2008 14:17

Pippi do you mean you haven't got it or you've got it but haven't yet made up your mind?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 05/02/2008 14:18

If there's anything useful in the veg section that might be useful for me. It looked like there was lots of stuff on meat which I don't need because I already have the River Cottage Meat Book which covers all that sort of stuff.

DH a big lamb fan so top lamb recipes might swing it....

micci25 · 05/02/2008 14:21

my dp bought me it for x mas there are loads of lush recipes in there i am making one for my dd tommorrow tagiatellie with brocolli spears and oozy cheese sauce its a mix of chapish and expensive recipes i think!

although most of the more expensive things are things like herbs and spices which once you have them you need to keep buying! its based a lot around veg with meat or pasta

there is quite a bit in it about growing veg though

Kathyis6incheshigh · 05/02/2008 14:28

Thanks Micci. There, I've gone and ordered it because I quite fancy broccoli spears with oozy cheese sauce

Oliveoil · 05/02/2008 14:30

his receipes are not for dieters, I have to say

but we don't diet in this house anyway, but it is all butter this, oil that, cheese the other

TheFallenMadonna · 05/02/2008 14:33

Jamie's Dinners is better IMO. I tend to cook more from that.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 05/02/2008 14:33

Oh I am a big believer in Butter Not Diets.
Anyway if I dig the garden that will burn off the butter, right?
