I appear to have forgotten to buy mince beef to cook chilli con carne. yes I realise that I'm an idiot
So, I have frozen fish. But no salad. Nada! Always one of my weekly purchases. FFS.

What I do have lol is broccoli, onions and mixed peppers!
How can I make broccoli enticing?

Can I boil the broccoli and smother it in butter or salt or something? 😮

Roast it in the oven with some salt & pepper. Delicious!

But clearly the situation you’re in really calls for frozen chips & peas. Do that instead.

I don't have frozen chips but I would bet my life that there's a tins of peas lurking in my cupboard somewhere.

Who has breaded fish with salad?

chips and peas all the way

Mrsjayy · 23/09/2022 18:55

Make oven chips and find peas or even beans.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 23/09/2022 18:56

Do you have pickled onions or gherkins? If they serve them at the chippy they must be a good match right?

Ratched · 23/09/2022 18:56

Posh fishfinger sarnie!
Ciabatta, or thick slice of bread, lots of salt and tartare sauce, sprinkle on spring onions.....heaven😍

Mrsjayy · 23/09/2022 18:56

Or wedges . But at a push your brocoli is fine

NoSquirrels · 23/09/2022 18:57

No chips? Shocker.
Potatoes?
What else aside from salad were you planning to serve with the fish?

Denny53 · 23/09/2022 18:57

Do you Feta cheese? Diced up with garden peas and a teaspoon of mint sauce is delicious!

ouch321 · 23/09/2022 19:00

What a Mumsnet post!

I'm soooooooo healthy that I have salad with my fish.

Not like you hoi polloi with your chips.

Blah blah blah.

YumYummy · 23/09/2022 19:00

Roast the onions and peppers as you cook the fish. Add some rice and the broccoli if you fancy it. Do you have coleslaw or a can of sweetcorn, they will go?

HarrySmiles · 23/09/2022 19:01

Just with a butty?

We're no frills or fancies here.

I'm kind of a protein + salad kinda girl!

Not a MASSIVE PLATE OF SALAD. More a MASSIVE PIECE OF STEAK lol usually (when someone else is paying).

Chips would be no use to my body I think. I need to get some nutrients into me so the fish is in the oven, the broccoli is staring at me from the fridge and I'm doing an online grocery order lol. There was a deal on fish (gastro something) so I have a lot of it. I also have every ingredient for the chilli con carne, except the carne! 😃

I'm a fucking idiot. I even bought special rice (well it might not be special but it wasn't own-brand - so it's special to me!).

How did I fuck up this shopping so badly.

If you saw me lol, you'd laugh. I'm probably the LEAST healthy person on Mumsnet lol. I'm probably also the stupidest idiot on Mumsnet.

I shop online and I have great intentions. I end up not cooking anything (or sort of making a disaster of anything I do cook). I try to be healthy but I fail miserably.

Make that JO broccoli salad - add peppers & onions fried off in butter instead of the bacon & tomatoes.

There are a couple of potatoes sprouting in my fridge lol. The fish takes 25 minutes to cook and I'm already about 15 minutes in.
I think I'll search for peas. (Tinned). Don't worry - I ain't no Nigella!

That would require me doing a lot of chopping. I'm exhausted unfortunately. Opening a tin of peas is about as good as it's going to get this evening.

do you have fresh tomatoes? I slice red pepper and tomatoes and cook them down in a frying pan to serve with fish. A splash of balsamic if you like it at the end.

The only place for a gherkin is on a quarter pounder.

I bought pickled onions once as my grandfather used to eat them. They're weird! Never bought them again!

Nope - I think I was asleep doing this order. I think what happened was that I ordered half from Tesco and the other half from Ocado but forgot to check out the Ocado order!

Broccoli chopped small and sauteed in butter. It's the only way I can eat it. Hate it boiled to a soggy death.

Could you just do the chili but veggie? Chop the broccoli and add more beans?
There's no rules in cooking!
