I appear to have forgotten to buy mince beef to cook chilli con carne. yes I realise that I'm an idiot
So, I have frozen fish. But no salad. Nada! Always one of my weekly purchases. FFS.

What I do have lol is broccoli, onions and mixed peppers!
How can I make broccoli enticing?

Broccoli chopped small and sauteed in butter. It's the only way I can eat it. Hate it boiled to a soggy death.

Does it not get burned?

Could you just do the chili but veggie? Chop the broccoli and add more beans?
There's no rules in cooking!

The problem is that because of a condition i have, I need to get protein into me for albumin. Anyone medical will understand why. So I have to try to eat protein.

Have the veggies mixed in with the rice.

Baxdream · 23/09/2022 19:28

Kidney beans and broccoli have protein!

YumYummy · 23/09/2022 19:29

A portion of peas contains 5g of protein, I add peas to lots of meals to bump up my protein and also I love them.

YumYummy · 23/09/2022 19:31

Fish, rice, peas

Who has breaded fish with salad?

chips and peas all the way

I like boiled salad potatoes and sweetcorn with my fish.
OP could do a stir-fry with the vegetables, as a side.

You're supposed to eat as many grammes of protein as your ideal weight in kilos (so if you weigh 50 kilos (or want to weight that), you need to eat 50 grammes of protein per day). I'm very underweight unfortunately, but when I was healthy and fit and weighed 55kilos, I struggled to get enough protein into me. I'm trying. Don't worry.
Thanks for the recipe suggestions for the broccoli though. Sounds yum!
Bread actually has protein in it surprisingly! Cheese. Chicken. Turkey. Steak. Yoghurts (I used to buy the protein yoghurts).

I think when you work out a lot, it's hard to get the right amount of protein.
I'm lucky if I get 50grammes of protein into me a week these days.

I did t realise salad with fish was so odd. I love it.

however it isn’t healthy as I prefer battered fish (sometimes I have two if they’re not that big) and a huge MN salad 🥗😉with tonnes of tartare sauce.

BeyondApproach · 23/09/2022 19:39

It's something to do with amino acids (proteins) and that your body can't produce some of them (or maybe any of them?) so you need to eat them. If you work out a lot, you won't build strength if you're not getting protein (as muscle is protein).

I'm raging cos my lovely fish is cooked and fish and peas is just not me!

I wish I had an appetite.

Go old school dinners! Fish and baked beans in tomato sauce, full of protein and delicious.

I never had school dinners where I came from but we had lots of meat at home so we were very strong and fit (because we were forced into a very energetic hobby).

A chicken breast has about 50g of protein, do you eat chicken, tins of tuna are good too? Basically try and have two protein things a day and you’ll be getting enough protein.

Silverpossum · 23/09/2022 19:47

I cook broccoli until almost done then drain and quickly fry with garlic and oil or butter. Delicious!

Bodice · 23/09/2022 19:49

Always do my broccoli in the oven with olive, salt and pepper ( after par boiling)

A chicken breast is about 30g (believe me, I researched this back in the day). A slice of bread has 5g maybe? Eggs are really good (except I hate the smell of them lol). For me to eat a whole chicken breast would have me needing a snooze lol. I've a small appetite. My trainer used to tell us to have a banana about an hour before a workout, then within an hour, to eat something with lots of protein for the muscles.

If you saw me, you'd laugh!

I remember a meal we had out once and there were a lot of roast vegetables. They were absolutely gorgeous! I was like 'what is this? it tastes so good?' My BIL said 'I suspect it's a parsnip!' Lol. I thought it was some sort of exotic vegetable.

This is the fish. It's not on offer anymore but it was yummy. I hate that. You buy something on offer, love it, then they double the bloody price!

I'd never have salad with breaded fish. The veggies you have are fine . Just roast them with a bit of oil and paprika.

Do you Feta cheese? Diced up with garden peas and a teaspoon of mint sauce is delicious!

Are the garden peas cooked and chilled or do you put the feta onto the hot garden peas?

I've just looked and there's only 15.7 g of protein in that damned fish.

A stir-fry with the veg. You can make sweet and sour sauce with ketchup, soy sauce, vinegar and cornflour. Cook the fish separately then add it to the finished stir fry. Do you have a can of pineapple? You can add the juice to the stir-fry sauce and then add the pineapple to the stir-fry. Fry the veg with some ginger and garlic too.

That sounds very like Caribbean cooking to me?

Am I right?

Stir fry onion, peppers, broccoli and any other veg you have (peas, thinly sliced mushrooms, broccoli stalks, crushed garlic, carrots, etc) in a little oil. Add a splash of soy sauce, sweet chilli or whatever else you have/half stock cube, etc at the end. Cook fish as usual.

or

If you have cheese make broccoli cheese (like cauliflower cheese) plus roasted peppers with onions and serve with the fish.
