How to pimp up a cheese and potato pie?

Bettyboo12 · 12/09/2022 17:23

Normally just use, butter, milk salt and pepper and serve with beans and tomatoes. I was thinking of adding the beans to the bottom of the dish and then layering with mash potatoes and cheese. What else can I add to add more flavour 😋

More cheese

Cheese things (like pasties, pies, macaroni etc) never have enough cheese. Then add more cheese

Also make sure you have punchy English mustard mixed in, also what about chutney on the bottom,, tomatoes sliced on top?

Leeks and mustard would be lovely. I’m not sure I’d prefer the beans outside of the pie.

SunflowerOrange · 12/09/2022 17:27

What is cheese and potato pie? I like cheese.... and potatoes.... I want this!

Recipe?

Georgeskitchen · 12/09/2022 17:28

Tabasco sauce or Worcestershire sauce😋

MangoBiscuit · 12/09/2022 17:29

I need to know too @SunflowerOrange !

TheVanguardSix · 12/09/2022 17:30

I’ve not had it myself but I’d add chives, leeks, and the suggestion of Worcestershire sauce is good.

AlisonDonut · 12/09/2022 17:31

Just add a spoon and I'm good thanks. No need to pimp anything. Apart from use the most extra mature cheddar you can find.

Notjusta · 12/09/2022 17:32

Does it have to be veggie? I'd add bacon lardons, and or leeks sound yummy.

Dancinginthebasement91 · 12/09/2022 17:33

Garlic oil to make the mash instead of butter? Onions? I like beans in a pie, you could always mix them into the mash

hugefanofcheese · 12/09/2022 17:33

Is it a pie with pastry or more like a shepherd's pie? Caramelised onions, garlic and leeks and plenty of mustard would make it delish either way! Maybe some mushrooms?

parietal · 12/09/2022 17:33

add mustard and onions?

OldTinHat · 12/09/2022 17:35

What time shall I come round?! And your address is??? 🤭

DameHelena · 12/09/2022 17:36

I think mustard too. I wouldn't add in beans.
Chives or spring onions?

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 12/09/2022 17:38

My mouth is watering, I haven't had cheese & potato pie for years. A bit of Stilton in with the Cheddar would be lovely 😋

Habibtihayatiii · 12/09/2022 17:47

Jalapeños!

Westfacing · 12/09/2022 17:50

More cheese
Fried onions
Mustard/Lea & Perrins

AreolaGrande · 12/09/2022 17:52

I've never had cheese and potato pie. Google suggests it's just baked mashed potato?

I feel like the word pie is extremely misleading if so!

Bettyboo12 · 12/09/2022 17:53

Does anyone add an egg to their mash? I've heard this before but wasn't sure what it actually did.

Rebelmcstreettuff · 12/09/2022 17:54

Mustard and top with bacon.
I always serve with beans and crusty white bread.
I am salivating at the thought😀

abovedecknotbelow · 12/09/2022 17:55

No leave it we'll alone apart from extra cheese. You always need more cheese. I had never heard of it unilaterally my husbands aunt made it for a family meal. You might need a lie down afterwards but it's so good as it is.

fallfallfall · 12/09/2022 17:55

Chorizo sausage some roasted red peppers.

theemmadilemma · 12/09/2022 17:55

Boiled eggs.

Bacon.

Bettyboo12 · 12/09/2022 17:57

OK so maybe a layer of baked beans with Worcester sauce and tomatoe puree do you reckon? Maybe chopped bacon, layer mashed potatoes with mustard and lots of butter grated chedders and slice tomatoes. Do you think this would work?

Smoked lardons of bacon.
Thin slivers of onion pre-booked in a little butter or olive oil until translucent.

GinTonic123 · 12/09/2022 17:57

I think it needs bacon…
