It's been lurking in the cupboard for ages. Does anyone have a good recipe please?

Slow cooker with barbecue sauce and then it into a veggie version of pulled pork?

Badger1970 · 07/09/2022 14:04

It's the most disgusting food imaginable. I had some jackfruit curry concoction from the veggie range at Sainsburys and had the worst stomach pains for about 4 days afterwards.

I'd save it for a day when you're really pissed off with someone and serve it to them Grin

Iamthewombat · 07/09/2022 14:06

I’d keep it to show your grandchildren. Then they can laugh at the stuff people actually ate in ye olden days. A bit like the ‘kidney soup’ you used to be able to buy tins of. Jackfruit is terrible stuff.

I thought it was already cooked, anyway I don't have a slow cooker. Perhaps if I smother it in bbq sauce I can pass it off as pork to the carnivores. Surely they'll never know Grin

The Dishoom jackfruit biryani is one of the best things on their menu

blametheparents · 07/09/2022 16:14

Chuck it in the bin!
I will eat almost anything, but jackfruit is truly disgusting!

DuneFan · 07/09/2022 16:14

Vegan duck pancakes www.lazycatkitchen.com/vegan-duck-pancakes/

Not very much like duck but tasty in its own right

Tabbouleh · 07/09/2022 16:15

People still eat it all over the world.
Curry
Biryani / pulao.
Fritters
Payasam ( a dessert)
Dishoom in London has a delicious jackfruit biryani.

crosstalk · 07/09/2022 16:15

M&S and Waitrose had a run of putting jackfruit in as the meat for vegans. It is far too sweet for me or what they cooked it in was. Can you not google?

Ditto!

I’ve made this several times and think it’s really tasty - www.waitrose.com/home/recipes/recipe_directory/j/jackfruit-gyros.html

picklemewalnuts · 07/09/2022 16:25

Add it to anything.

Basically it's not got much flavour. Stick it in a chicken curry and it feels like twice as much meat.

tellyiscrap · 07/09/2022 16:39

I would leave it by the back door .. doesn't matter how long .. if you ever hear a burglar or any kind of intruder it will make a handy weapon to whack them over the head .. best I can do for that vile stuff

Still seething I wasted £5-95 on a jacket spud with this fake pulled pork look alike concoction, can't be that bad I said , I'll just eat it up

Tabbouleh · 07/09/2022 16:42

I always wonder why we try to make vegetables or fruit taste like meat in the UK. That is not what you are supposed to do. Give it to an Asian friend?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 07/09/2022 16:44

Barbecue sauce, ketchup, garlic, chilli flakes, soy sauce, gravy granules, tinned tomatoes, tomato puree, ginger - just keep adding strongly flavoured things and cook them down until you can't taste anything but those.

Then you might get a vaguely edible thing out of it.

OldTinHat · 07/09/2022 16:51

Throw it far, far away.

abovedecknotbelow · 07/09/2022 16:54

Throw it in the bin, it is utterly vile.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 07/09/2022 16:56

You lot are NO help!!

🤣🤣

@KateLumley I opened your thread, hoping to get some inspiration for the tin I have, but this lot aren't helpful!!

I had it from waitrose in a Green Thai curry, which was what I planned for my tin, but I hate cooking so it hasnt happened yet!

Mouth watering 🤤

Pulled jackfruit is another good idea as a pp suggested, instead of pulled pork

Surtsey · 07/09/2022 17:01

Find a local vegan and give it to them.

CrispyTofu · 07/09/2022 17:08

I'm having jackfruit for tea! In a stir-fry with noodles, broccoli, tofu and kimchi. Very tasty 😋

SirenSays · 07/09/2022 17:09

I'm surprised so many people don't like it. My favourite Mexican restaurant has the best jackfruit burritos ever 😍
