Is there anyone who DOESN'T love their air fryer?

Just that really. They're not cheap and although I'm very interested in the idea, I wonder if I'm going to be disappointed.
If you didn't like yours, why not?

I utterly loathed mine - went all in with a Food Ninja, the bigger one.

So very complicated, appalling result and a fucking faff on to clean.

I even made MiL try it and she couldn't get with it either.

@Minimalme in what way was it a faff to clean? I suspected this, but everyone seems to say they're so easy to clean.

@veneeroftheyear I'm still in two minds about getting one, so thanks for the thread!

Riverlee · 03/09/2022 08:48

Thanks for the thread. Last night, went to PC World ( can’t get used to calling it Curry’s yet) to look at them, and was surprised how small the cooking areas were, so interesting to read all the feedback.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/09/2022 08:56

i do cook sausages and burgers in the oven,
i prefer to

TinaWeymouthsBass · 03/09/2022 09:16

I have the big ninja foodie and love it, not had my oven on at all since , can do a whole roast and roast veg in 40 mins. As for cleaning just take the pot out and either dishwasher or hand wash and wipe the inside of the machine with a soapy cloth... every now and again there's a steam clean setting just put water in and it cleans itself way easier than cleaning an oven.

lugeforlife · 03/09/2022 09:24

We have to me arriving on Monday. It's a dual basket one but not a ninja.

We eat weirdly as a family. I am a veggie and work long hours so often eat by myself, dh has a dreadful diet and at 52 that isn't gonna change. The kids eat ok (dh makes sure they do ironically!) but are teens and eat a lot of snacks or are off out at different times.

We are forever turning the oven on for small stuff. They like sausages and burgers from the oven. Dh and dd2 love a chip so we are hoping this may help eat actual potato rather than oven chips. They also love a jacket spud (and a cheese toastie!). They don't like much 'wet' food like casserole and chilli so we specifically avoided the multi function models.

I batch cook a fair bit stuff which gets reheated in the oven (including veggie stuff for me). We also don't have a gas hob.

So hoping it will make day to day quicker, easier and cheaper. Not expecting miracles!

BigWoollyJumpers · 01/09/2022 12:39

I don't get it though. They are basically just small fan ovens. If you have a modern efficient fan oven, just use that surely??

@BigWoollyJumpers

i think it's partly that people say they're faster (I guess due to smaller area to heat) & so save on electric (though I think you have to be careful with that as if you're doing several batches instead they're probably not) and for me it's kind of psychological. I hate putting the oven in for just veggie sausages (I do cook. 2 packets & have the rest cold, but it still seems 'a waste' for just some sausages. They don't cook as well grilled or in a fry pan. Whereas half the time in a small air fryer doesn't seem so bad. In my own (not fan assisted admittedly) neither the sausages OR the roast vegetables cook very
nicdkynuf cooked together, so I'm wondering about a dual drawer.

I also hate things on the work surface, but it would have to live on there as I don't have space for it anywhere else.

SO undecided,

no one I know has one that I could borrow.

I suppose if I got one & hated it, I could always donate it to someone without cooking facilities. I guess I could find a womens refuge or something.

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination The issue with yet more STUFF on my counter is what put me off for a very long time. And I did have to do a little rearranging to make it work. But the massive speed savings and not having to put the oven on for a few sausages is a game changer. I made DD a crumbed chicken breast (frozen) and some fries yesterday in 11 minutes. Cooked some carrots and broccoli on the hob and bang... dinner was super quick and easy.

I haven't tried sausages yet but assume it will be the same. I often have roasted vegetables for lunch but always felt ridiculous turning on the oven for 45 minutes at least for a single plate of roasted tomatoes and onions. I did it in the air fryer on the roast function this week and it took 15 minutes.

comfortablyfrumpy · 03/09/2022 09:39

Sorry, I refuse to gear a bad word said about mine 😀

I did get a big one, with shelves though.

TinaWeymouthsBass · 03/09/2022 13:23

I bought the ninja foodie to free up work surface space, I got rid of the slow cooker , air fryer and soup maker as this does it all. I got it on Amazon prime day with £100 off and so far it's been amazing.... I'm having a go at a carrot cake in it this afternoon!

@BlingLoving you're tempting me...

@comfortablyfrumpy which one do you have?

@TinaWeymouthsBass have you made the carrot cake yet?

TinaWeymouthsBass · 03/09/2022 17:09

Carrot cake looks fab ninja steams then bakes can’t see any difference from oven baked, just cooled and transported to my moms to ice and sample for dessert 🧁

orangeisthenewpuce · 03/09/2022 17:11

Love ours. 2 big drawers that have separate controls. Really easy to clean. No downsides to it all.

Ninja Foodi max dual zone 9.5L It was cheapest in Currys when I bought it

Haybo26 · 04/09/2022 20:31

This is mine. I cook everything in it and no longer use our oven. We are a family of 4...sometimes 5. Today I cooked a whole chicken and roast potatoes in it. Yesterday i did a full breakfast in it. I use it for fish, curries, bolognese, boiled eggs..! Literally everything.

Is there anyone who DOESN'T love their air fryer?
NotLactoseFree · 05/09/2022 10:08

I am devouring a croissant, cooked from frozen in 8 minutes in my air fryer, as I type. we love the frozen croissants but find it hard to get the right crispy outside vs soft inside ratio - my air fryer has nailed it.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 05/09/2022 10:53

Chilli in 15 minutes?! Gosh that's impressive.

Is there honestly no compromise on taste though, I'd have thought for a real Dogs Bollocks Chilli you need way more time for the lovely spices to do their magic and give a really tasty and rich sauce? Seems like it would be a bit insipid?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 05/09/2022 10:55

BigWoollyJumpers · 02/09/2022 11:40

Add the steak to the air fryer basket and cook it for about 7 to 9 minutes for a medium-rare steak or 10 to 14 minutes for medium, flipping the steak halfway through. When the steak is finished cooking, let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving

I get that some things might be good in an air fryer, and take less time. Bonus. However, the above is bat shit crazy. A steak on a griddle takes 2/3 minutes, and if you are using gas, will use much less energy price wise.

I suppose as with all things, it depends how you use them, for how long, and what you use them for.........

And the griddle gives you those lovely spots where the heat has caught and charred it. Plus it renders the fat down beautifully in weird and bloody love cooked down steak fat

i know im a man not a mum so hope you ladys dont mind me posting here i hate my tower air fryer so much i put out in bin

MumOf2workOptions · 02/04/2023 11:40

It's in the utility room with ita friends

Bread maker
Food processor
Panini press
Donut maker
Pasta machine
Fondue set
Electric wok
Perfect prep machine

It's not big enough at all and it's a right faff I'd need to buy the accessories I think 🤔 to make it work but I'm selling it I'll never use it
