Best bbq puds

Having a bbq in a couple of weeks but can't decide which pud/desert/sweet treats to do.

It will still be warm and trying to think of something fairy simple to feed a crowd. I can bake but won't really have the time.

Any ideas?

trifle

BlueGlasses · 09/08/2022 14:10

Eton mess. Only prep is to make / buy meringue and assemble just before serving (clotted cream ice cream, whipped double cream, lots of fresh berries and broken meringue).

Otherwise use your meringue to make a pavlova. My family fav is mango and passion fruit.

Chocolate brownies with cream and raspberries

Cheesecake. Jamie Oliver's lemon and orange no bake. Delish.

DIY ice cream bar - a few tubs of different flavours and a pile of cones, or sundae dishes. Sauce, sprinkles, squirty cream, mini flakes, berries.

cheeseboard

baked New York cheesecake, berries and double cream

Pavlova or meringues, berries and cream

Fresh fruit bowl with ice cream, yogourt.
Bbq pineapple, peaches
Fruit skewers
Cheesecake

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 09/08/2022 14:11

I'd just buy a load of ice creams/lollies and maybe put out some berries and cream.

Peonyperfection · 09/08/2022 16:14

Thanks all, great ideas. I was having a real block.

Haven't heard of the Jamie Oliver cheesecake before so I'll take a look.

A shop bought New York cheesecake is a good call as I have an online shop coming. Berries and icing sugar should make it look pretty and hopefully it will survive the heat.

Found this for fruit skewers as I couldn't think which fruit and found some rainbow ones. Great for kids and adults! I'll get one of the kids to help make those.

Fruit skewers with chocolate sauce, big bowl of fresh fruit salad (add passion fruit for a delicious flavour) be careful with things that spoil in the heat (cream, ice cream) Eton mess sounds lovely but how will it survive the heat?

Bananas and pineapple done on the bbq with chocolate - and optional rum for drinkers, then add cream

doubleshotcappuccino · 09/08/2022 16:24

Great idea as the bbq will still be warm. Do you put the pineapple sliced straight on or in foil?

Tiramisu ..

I've never made a tiramisu as i don't like coffee but I bet that's a crowd pleaser. I could probably make that the night before and let people dive in.

My go to for these is a big bowl of fruit and berries, a jug of cream and a cheeseboard with some nice biscuits, butter a couple of really good cheeses (rather than lots of little pieces) and then some grapes and figs. I

f you want something sweet buy some of those tubs of mini brownies, rocky road etc. and arrange on a plate sprinkled with icing sugar and some raspberries.

It might just be my family but by the time we've finished with the BBQ people just want bits to pick at rather than a massive dessert.

MrsMitford3 · 09/08/2022 16:31

I am making a lemon posset for this weekend and serving with fresh raspberries, some chocolate dipped strawberries and cherries and probably buying something chocolate cake ish.

Was planning on plumb crumble but our plumb tree not cooperating!

RinklyRomaine · 09/08/2022 18:48

My new go to is Eton Mess ice cream sundae. Same principle but with clotted cream ice cream, smushed berries, whipped cream and crumbled meringues. Fantastic on a hot day and super easy to throw together.

donedone · 09/08/2022 18:49

Banoffee pie

wibblewobbleball · 09/08/2022 20:26

My standard for a BBQ is pavlova, but I'm not sure why? You can make all the bits in advance, assemble in minutes and then it all seems to have gone about 10 mins after bringing it out Grin so it is easy and a crowd pleaser!

kateandme · 09/08/2022 20:35

Pavlova.
you can make the mirangue now and store them! So all you need to do is add filling.we do one with cream and fruits and another with caramel tofffee choc and caramel bits.very very popular and easy if the base is done before hand.
baked alaska
lemon mirangue pie using greens box kit.easy.again you can do pastry and lemon but in advance.
fruit dipped in choc.night before and kept in fridge.

Smors!! People toast their own marshmallow on the bbq and sandwich it in a dark choc digestive

Mortonpup · 09/08/2022 21:00

White chocolate and raspberry trifle - v v easy and delicious. Can DM recipe if you'd like it

AdoraBell · 09/08/2022 21:05

Neighbours did a BBQ at the weekend, pudding was ice-creams. They had a variety and I picked a Biscoff one. They put them in the utensils pot and passed that around for guests to choose.

Other than that idea I would go for a pavlova or lemon meringue pie as suggested.

Bunnyfuller · 09/08/2022 21:07

Bananas on bbq - slit them open (skins on) and squash some chocolate pieces inside (dark choc glorious) place bananas on bbq. When skins black plate them up, people can peel them and serve with ice cream/cream.

AdoraBell · 09/08/2022 21:12

Ooh, white chocolate raspberry trifle sounds lush Mortonpup would you mind giving me the recipe please?

cherrypiepie · 09/08/2022 21:19

Aldi lemon meringue pie is delicious if shop bought is an option and really cheap too.

Meringue nests and berries and cream (or make lemon curd with the yolks)?

Quite a few people just offering magnum type ice creams.

Make a key lime pie?

nocoolnamesleft · 09/08/2022 21:23

Mmmm, love barbecued pineapple. With those lovely caramelised stripes where it's been on the grill.

Clevs · 09/08/2022 21:31

Cut a slit down the length of a banana. Cut a Mars bar into bite sized pieces, stuff them into the banana, wrap in foil and bake on the BBQ whilst it's still warm until the chocolate melts. Eat with a teaspoon by scooping it all out 😋
