"so Today - how often do YOU (I presume you eat free-range/organic) eat chicken - either as portions or as a whole one?"

Not even once a month. I can't remember the last time we had chicken. We perhaps have a whole chicken once every 6 weeks. Occasionally I will buy free range chicken breasts if they are reduced and put them in the freezer to make a Saturday night meal (once the children are in bed) for me and DH. My children only get chicken off a whole joint. We buy free range chicken from the butcher and either roadt it and use the left overs for meals in the days following or DH joints it and we freeze bits and eat it more sporadically.

Wish I'd known that TIQ - I've got a FF for sale in mint condition, absolutely perfect which would have been far cheaper for you!

TheIceQueen · 10/01/2008 13:28

sorry I must apologise for my tone in the bit you've quoted - I didn't mean for it to come over like that

TodayToday · 10/01/2008 13:30

No worries - I didn't read it with a tone

TheIceQueen · 10/01/2008 13:31

oh well - we can give the car back to the HP in April (and will be) with no further payments on it.......so DH currently slogging his guts out at work to get enough bonus to have around £500 cash to spend on a 2nd hand car - the money we'll save (about £250 a month!) can be put towards our other debts and/or saved - and if we go away on to visit family we'll just use the money we'll be saving from losing the wretched HP on a hire car

Felt very odd at the time - brand new car parked outside the house when we were on the verge of almost having to declare ourselves bankrupt !

southeastastra · 10/01/2008 13:33

this is a horrible thread. people justifying why they have the cars they have etc.

it's no-ones business, what's that got to do with chickens anyway.

Wisteria · 10/01/2008 13:34

sometimes that's just the way it works...although never financially astute to buy a 'new' car, one a year old is a good deal though.

Wisteria · 10/01/2008 13:35

True SEA - it's getting a bit stupid and finger pointing isn't it...?

TheIceQueen · 10/01/2008 13:38

oh I'm not bothered by it SEA - its served its purpose well and meant that DH can work (just hope he chooses a more suitable car for a man of 6ft 2 to drive for 6 or so hrs a day than a tiny Fiesta next time) .

Wisteria - is was the cheapest finance deal we could get (funny we were hilted up to the eyes in debt - but people couldn't wait to give us credit.......but now we're on top of the debt and reducing it people don't want to know LOL).

Wisteria · 10/01/2008 13:39

Isn't it bizarre.........

Am glad you'll soon be free of your £250 a month though - yay!!!

whispers - you'll be able to afford free range chicken then, smirk

lenaschildminding · 10/01/2008 13:40

Wasn't making a point, people were talking about rough shooting etc.

Anyway, I just had a call from the hospital regarding my daughter, it's another thread so won't bother you with details, going to cry now!

TheIceQueen · 10/01/2008 13:41

anyhow..........better get sorted - first week back at toddler group this afternoon - and I need to get DS2 and 3 sorted and ready to go....and have that roll-up that I rolled ages ago LOL.

So as much as I'd love to stay and chat I must get on - got sod all done last night because of this thread.....and I'm running the risk of it happening again.

poshwellies · 10/01/2008 13:41

ohhhh lena *squeezes

Wisteria · 10/01/2008 13:42

sorry lena, that probably came out wrong, I was agreeing with you really......

TheIceQueen · 10/01/2008 13:43

unfortunately not Wisteria - that money has to go towards our other debts - if we clear our debts NOW then I can buy free range, organic and fairtrade to my hearts content forever once they're gone

TodayToday · 10/01/2008 13:43

"this is a horrible thread. people justifying why they have the cars they have etc. " Yes, very true.

If 95% of chickens sold are battery farm chickens people on all sorts of incomes are unaware of what they are eating or aren't bothered about the type of chicken they are eating. I'm sure this campaign is aimed at raising awareness and increasing the amount of free range chickens sold to people who can more easily afford it or have the means to cook and eat something.

fordfiesta · 10/01/2008 13:44

sea was not asking anyone to justify their cars..... i do however fail to understand how some (!) people who live purely on benifits have a far better standard of life to me though.... but yep ok that is really a different subject all together. TIQ know what you mean about people throwing money at you when you are already in debt..... we have been there to and it's not easy. We are exceptionally lucky that my family are really supportive so i can always rely on food parcels from them if times are hard!

What I find the saddest is that there are plenty of people out there that know of the conditions, they know of the nutrition, they just don't give a toss. PIL for one. They simply "don't care" (their words) As far as they can see, animals are a commodity to be used as we see fit and the cheaper the better. Organic is no better for you and it tastes no better, so they say.

We do not see eye to eye
