Come on then, who sent in a Platinum Pudding recipe for the jubilee?

8yo DD wanted to have a go so she and I both did something. She made a caramel cake with buttercream and sugar flowers. I did a blackberry, apple and elderflower jelly concoction. Did anyone else send in a recipe?

Just me then 😋

I didn’t but am looking forward to reading the responses. 😃 Should be a great thread.

sashagabadon · 05/02/2022 11:10

I haven’t but I hope it is a TV programme to watch like bake off as I would love to see all the entries
Such a good idea

heldinadream · 05/02/2022 11:20

No but I briefly toyed with the idea of creating something with 70 ingredients and then realised it was typically mad and talked myself out of it. Grin

I thought of trying to make Coronation Chicken ice-cream but CBA in the end. I'm a republican so not really my bag.

I would have loved to see that! What were you planning? I'd enjoy seeing the mad entries as well as the reasonable ones.

Coronation chicken is like tasty sick. Making it into ice cream just adds a new layer of vileness.

Ooh, no, it's lovely! My favourite for sarnies or a JP.
Snoopsnoggysnog · 05/02/2022 11:28

Not me but I have helped an older relative to edit and submit their entry. Can’t share details as too outing but it’s amazing and I can’t wait to see how far it gets!

RishiRich · 05/02/2022 11:32

It is tasty, but looks horrible!

Come on @Snoopsnoggysnog, give us a hint.

It will probably be a lemon drizzle.

heldinadream · 05/02/2022 12:33

@RishiRich oh something completely OTT like a fluffy merengue concoction with about thirty different fruits and ten kinds of cream and custard and spun sugar and gold and silver but even my mad brain couldn't think of 70 ingredients and by then I realised it would be a total mad mess and not the fabulous edifice it was inside my head.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/02/2022 18:26

I thought about doing it, and had got as far as wondering about what edible ingredients are platinum-coloured, but then I ran out of ideas. I'm quite a good cook/baker but hopeless at cake decorating and other ways of making what I make look exciting.

Will look forward to seeing the shortlisted entries, though! They can't be too complex as the idea is that the winning recipe will be published and could be used by ordinary home cooks to prepare the dish/bake for celebrations in June.

It sounds fabulous but I reckon you're right. I was thinking of edible silver dust but it's not particularly accessible.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g I couldn't think of any platinum coloured foods! I thought maybe elderflower cordial but then reckoned it looks less platinum, more wee.

All I could think of was those little silver balls! I'm not even sure platinum is silver-coloured. Grin

The other vague idea I had was using ingredients from the four UK nations and as many Commonwealth nations as possible, but that would have been tricky.

RishiRich · 05/02/2022 20:07

Those balls are lethal. Can you imagine being responsible for cracking Her Majesty's tooth?

My brother and SIL have platinum wedding rings. They are vair shiny but still silver coloured.

The 4 nations/Commonwealth idea is good. Like Kate's wedding dress. I wonder if we'll see something like that in the final.

OP posts:
Snoopsnoggysnog · 05/02/2022 20:16

Yes - ours has commonwealth origin and ingredients Grin

heldinadream · 05/02/2022 20:42

Can you imagine being responsible for cracking Her Majesty's tooth? Shock Do you think she's still got any original teeth? Not the best falsies money and status can buy? Grin

RishiRich · 05/02/2022 21:38

Hmm. I'm not sure. Expensive either way!

Just got a rejection email from Fortnum & Mason. Oh well. I'm looking forward to seeing the finalists!

I found the choice of words to italicise strange.

I didn't enter. I'm terrified of baking. No idea why. Well done for giving it a go.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 19/02/2022 09:38

My relatives one didn’t get through… got the same email @RishiRich!
I thought we had a good chance! Be interesting to see what wins!

RishiRich · 19/02/2022 10:10

Oh no @Snoopsnoggysnog! I'd been holding out hopes for you and your relative. My friends who are total foodies and came up with something really good also got an email yesterday so the finalists must be mind-blowing. We're planning a reject recipe party in June to try eachother's out.
