I was disappointed with this.

The sauce was thin and watery.

What did I do wrong?

The sauce was thin and watery

That's the least of the problems with chicken and raspberry jam.

Why would anyone even think of using raspberry jam on chicken? What are they? Barbarians?

DropYourSword · 04/02/2022 22:16

Was it from the Rachel Green cookbook?!

AnotherMansCause · 04/02/2022 22:16

What did I do wrong?

You were deceived by a recipe that included hot raspberry jam & chicken...?

User2638483 · 04/02/2022 22:17

Sorry… I don’t think I’m your target poster… but sounds gross and surely very sweet, Why would you attempt it? 🤮

WalkingDownTheOnlyRoad · 04/02/2022 22:17

OP, this does not sound tasty. Do you have a link to the recipe - maybe someone can find out where you went wrong.

It’s so disappointing when a recipe fails. But this one might not have had much possibility to begin with Shock

Maireas · 04/02/2022 22:18

Did you do a Rachel Green and stick two pages of the recipe book together?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 04/02/2022 22:18

You might think raspberry jam and chicken is a good idea, littlebilly, but you would be wrong.

Pegasussnail · 04/02/2022 22:18

That's the mumsnet recipe
Never tried it though

Crimesean · 04/02/2022 22:19

WTF? Jam and chicken?! Confused

I enjoyed raspberry jam and gherkin sandwiches whilst pregnant, but that's not at all normal...

pilates · 04/02/2022 22:19

It’s a MN top banana recipe.

The ad keeps coming up and it looked nice on the video.

OP posts:
pilates · 04/02/2022 22:21

It was jam, red wine vinegar, garlic and soy sauce

Crimesean · 04/02/2022 22:22

It’s a trifle. It’s got all these layers. First there’s a layer of ladyfingers, then jam. Then custard (which I made from scratch), then raspberries, more ladyfingers...then beefsautéedwith peas and onions, then a little bit more custard, then bananas and then I put whipped cream on top.

LostMyLastHatfulOfWords · 04/02/2022 22:24

Yes OP - a recipe for that kept appearing in an ad on Mumsnet.

I thought it was some sort of test! (Your common sense tells you one thing... the ad suggests another.)

It wasn't clear how they would get the results though.

It's not a recipe I would try but lots of people mix fruit and meat .

Orange and duck
Apple and pork
Cranberry and Turkey

There are probably many more too

LeQuern · 04/02/2022 22:30

I don’t think I am shitfaced on half a bottle of red but this thread is making me question everything… Jam? And chicken?! Oh.

AnotherMansCause · 04/02/2022 22:30

Nooo, @nocoolnamesleft. Try again.

It's ok, OP, we'll be there for you.

User2638483 · 04/02/2022 22:32

Ah I actually have the MN cookbook, and there are some decent recipes in there (esp like the slow cooker section), but for some reason… this is one I’ve not ever tried, I wonder why? 🤮

I have no issue combining fruit and meat. It can be delicious. I did a lovely chicken, grape and cinzano dish once.

It's just the "jam" part I'm struggling with!

WalkingDownTheOnlyRoad · 04/02/2022 22:35

@pilates

It was jam, red wine vinegar, garlic and soy sauce
I might put honey or dark brown sugar with red wine vinegar, soy sauce and garlic but would need some other added ingredients to make a marinade not really a sauce.
NewYearCalavicci · 04/02/2022 22:48

@DropYourSword

um grape and chicken ? each to there own I guess Grin

DropYourSword · 04/02/2022 23:03

@NewYearCalavicci I'll admit it sounds odd, but it was really tasty!
(I didn't make the recipe up, just followed from a cookbook)

AfterSchoolWorry · 04/02/2022 23:05

Yuck

autumnboys · 04/02/2022 23:09

We had it this week. It was…..ok. As the children ate it they enquired about the possibility of my buying a jar of chicken tonight next week. I won’t rush to make it again.
