  1. spread it with a thick layer of butter, sprinkle large amounts of brown sugar mixed with cinnamon, roll it up, slice into rounds and bake - easy cinnamon roll pastries

  2. mix mashed potato, cream cheese, sharp cheddar, spring onions, garlic and pepper. Cut the pastry into 5 strips, dollop the mix onto one half of a strip, paint edges with egg, fold over and seal with fingers. Slice the tops, egg wash and bake - cheese and onion pasties

  3. cut into long thin strips. Brush with melted butter, garlic and mustard, sprinkle liberally with cheese. Twist a few times. Bake - Cheese and mustard twists

  4. Cut pastry into squares. Put a piece of cooked bacon on each square and cover it with grated cheese. Fold two of the corners into the middle and press together. Bake - bacon and cheese turnovers

Make your own sausage rolls

ouch321 · 06/01/2022 15:34

Make a savoury pie is the obvious one. Eg minced beef and onion or chicken and leek.

ElenaCouch · 06/01/2022 15:37

Stuffing, cranberry and cheese Palmiers.

T'was delicious.

Make a lovely quiche

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/01/2022 15:41

Part-cook some bacon rashers.
Cut pastry into squares (10cm sides roughly).
Turn each square to a diamond, lay a rasher of bacon and a slice of brie on it down the middle.
Dollop some chutney on top.
Fold each point of the diamond (left and right) into the middle.
Bake.
Eat them all in 1 sitting.

Savoury tart - eg with onion and goats cheese, leek and bacon, mushroom and cheese, roasted peppers.

Ninkanink · 06/01/2022 15:42

Delia’s mini tarts

You can make them bigger instead and serve as lunch, or as a starter.

I add or take away toppings depending on what mood I’m in, but the recipe is still a useful starting point.

Pesto, then top with mozzarella tomatoes and basil

I was going to recommend what sadpapercourtesan said.

Ooh they sound good too.

Or make pot pies - fill small gratin dish(es) with whatever filling you’re in the mood for such as chicken and leek, beef and onions, leftover stew or whatever, top with a lid of puff pastry. Egg wash and into the oven. Easy and warming/cosy on winter evenings.

Ozanj · 06/01/2022 15:45

Make the dry filling for any samosa you like, pop it on, and put it in the oven.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 06/01/2022 15:46

Nutella star

AdaColeman · 06/01/2022 15:55

Make cheese twists or cheese straws with them to have with drinks, use grated cheese with whole grain mustard, tomato puree with grated cheese or pesto with grated cheese for variety.
Or make the twists with anchovy paste or Gentleman's Relish for something different.

To use up mincemeat, make mincemeat turnovers, you could make cranberry turnovers too.

Hugasauras · 06/01/2022 15:57

Do you have kids? Pinwheels are always a hit here. Easy for DD to help with and keep and freeze well for snack time. And you can chuck in anything that needs to be used.

ilovebagpuss · 06/01/2022 17:42

Tube of sausage meat and some red onion chutney make a large sausage plait with the chutney inside going all bubbly and sweet.
Mmmm

Curlyreine · 06/01/2022 18:37

My kids love salmon, cheese and cream wrapped up like a giant sausage roll. Brushed with egg.

They will also eat random left over vegetables from the fridge, as long as it's wrapped up in pastry and served with ketchup.

Santaisstilleatingmincepies · 06/01/2022 18:39

Jam tarts.
Nothing else to say!!

Snozwanger · 06/01/2022 18:40

Marmite pinwheels? Mix some Marmite with a bit of melted butter to thin it, spread it on roll up and cut into pinwheels and bake.

BaconAndAvocado · 06/01/2022 19:46

Oh wow!
Thanks loads everyone, ALL of your suggestions sound thoroughly gorgeous 😀

Planning to make jam tarts using the puff pastry today.

I just cut the pastry into circles, dollop a splodge of jam in each and then bake??

How long in the oven and do I need to brush the outer edges with egg?

Santaisstilleatingmincepies · 09/01/2022 10:42

Teaspoon of jam..no need for anything else imo!
Mmm
Even better with your own homemade jam!
I have thousands of Mull blackberries in mine ready for another batch!

Mini quiches for packed lunches cooked in muffin tins. Line metal muffin tin with thinly rolled puff pastry, fill with whisked egg with a splash of milk and some shreds of ham/cheese/cooked broccoli/smoked salmon.
