What are you having for NYE?

I need inspiration! DH and I wanted a seafood platter but can't order one anywhere that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and way more than its worth.

We used to make Sri Lankan fish/seafood curry pre children as a tradition. Quite fancy it, but DH doesn't.

Looking for inspiration! We also have a toddler and a newborn so I'm torn between wanting something delicious but not wanting too much hassle in the kitchen!

YessicaHaircut · 28/12/2021 13:58

We’re getting a Chinese takeaway, and I can’t wait! (lazy 😂)

FlutterbyNightTime · 28/12/2021 15:08

Real Middle Eastern food because I'm on holiday in the middle east!

CornishGem1975 · 28/12/2021 16:04

A beige buffet

SantaMonicaPier · 28/12/2021 16:07

Veggie paella I think

hashbrownsandwich · 28/12/2021 16:10

Curry - homemade but batch cooked so it's as easy as shoving it in the oven.

Paneer chilli masala
Tadka dhall
Pilau rice
Naan bread
Samosas
Chilli pickle, mango chutney and poppadoms

Georgyporky · 28/12/2021 19:00

I bought frozen lobsters in Lidl or Aldi in case BJ cancelled our Xmas plans, so we'll have them on NYE. I think they're still available, c.£6 each.
Ready-cooked, so something simple - probably involving pasta & cream.

namechangeagain32 · 28/12/2021 19:01

We've ordered a food box from a restaurant we like, all we need to do is heat it up Smile

marieantoinehairnet · 28/12/2021 19:06

A very delicious homemade 4 hour cooked chilli with nachos, real guacamole, Mexican tit bits, homemade sorbet for Afterschool, homemade cocktails

MrsDThomas · 28/12/2021 21:28

Tesco finest meal deal, and pizza meal deal for the teens.

gerbo · 29/12/2021 15:04

Tapas feast.
Cheeses, meats, salad, olives, bread.
Calamari, chicken kebab thingies, patatas bravas, chorizo migas, garlic mushrooms.
Sparking wine. Can't wait!

8Track · 29/12/2021 15:11

Starter - prawn cocktail for DP, oysters for me
Main - carp, deciding how to cook it right now!
Pud - box of chocolates, maybe apple crumble?

MissLC · 29/12/2021 15:16

We're making a beef rendang curry with coconut rice. Jubel peach beer to drink and chocolate mousse to follow.
I can't wait

crazyjinglist · 29/12/2021 15:24

Kind of Japanese themed. Some kind of nibbles/starter, then teriyaki roast beef with fried noodles and vegetables. Followed by matcha cheesecake with blueberry swirls. Dh is in charge of the starter and main course, I'm making the cheesecake.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/12/2021 15:39

Buffet and board games:
veggie sausage rolls
baked Camembert
cheese board
baguette
crudites and green salad
hummus
cream cheese and chilli dip
Quorn picnic eggs and slices
all the crisps

And then on NYD I'm making a curry feast, because I hate NYD so will need something to keep me busy and stop me from moaning about how much I hate it!

OutOfRoutine · 29/12/2021 17:33

Lots of good ideas! Quite tempted by the Chinese takeaway!

Tapas sounds great, would be a good way to get my toddler to try new things too, will explore that option!

Go for it OP, our children love it. May do a tortilla too.....Churros from m&s for pud!
Have a great evening whatever you do.

CeCeSchmidt · 29/12/2021 20:52

Could be pheasant and sausage casserole, could be pizza 🤷🏻‍♀️

Forgotthespuds · 29/12/2021 20:58

I'm ordering Japanese & I've got a bottle of saki that I'll drink warm. I'm going to be home alone so I will enjoy it all whilst sat in bed. Perfect

lucie82 · 29/12/2021 20:59

I usually do a carpet picnic buffet, lots of chicken etc from Iceland, some sarnies, crisps etc

inappropriateraspberry · 29/12/2021 21:06

Pizza

OutOfRoutine · 29/12/2021 21:30

@gerbo, do you prepare garlic mushrooms, chicken skewers, patatas bravas etc yourself? I'll take recipes if you have some :)

Might do prawns too, my toddler randomly loves them.

@Forgotthespuds that sounds heavenly!
