Seriously if you are really disorganised and need to made something quick to impress friends this is teh bollox. It is so simple my 6 and 8 year olds made it

Basically you get
350g dark chocolate (good 7-% stuff)
397g tin of condensed milk
pinch salt
30g butter

Melt together gently in a big pan and stir lots

150g pistacios (squashed a bit using the roliing pin/freezer bag method)

Mix nuts into chocolate goo, whack into a foil tray (helps to turn it out and no washing up!) Bung into fridge for a couple of hours.

Cut into lots of little pieces and wrap in bags/boxes/foil whatever

Seriously I am not joking that my kids did it. I watched and stirred a bit but that was my input!! We have made 12 tiny boxes for teachers and assorted friends, plus we have a big slab left for christmas day favours oin teh table

YUMMY

My FIL made this at the weekend but used Olivio instead of butter. Result - fudge that doesn't set.

I'm glad yours turned out well, I might make some in the New Year when it's cold and boring!

LUCYKateallthemincepies · 19/12/2007 21:10

hmm, was going to make chocolate truffles with dd at the weekend for her grandmas but am now thinking this might be a good idea too

MrsCarrot · 19/12/2007 21:13

I'm going to make this tomorrow for friends, I even bought some little bags today with snowflakes on.

Is it like proper fudge?

Crunchie · 19/12/2007 22:42

I think it is nicer than normal fudge as it isn't quite as sweet and sickly. Using really strong dark chocolate makes it more sophistcated than normal fudge.

So easy, looks fab and take divine. I would do this any day over chocolate truffles as there is little mes, no rolling chocolate into balls etc

thats what put me off it before, all that sticky rolling and they would never make good spheres just weird little rocks.

Mmm, thanks, I am going to make them tomorrow.

ELR · 20/12/2007 14:25

think i will give it a go!!sounds nice

Maidamess · 20/12/2007 14:27

Crunchie, did you wear a snug fitting jumper, push your boobs together as you leaned over the counter and laviciously licked your fingers? I sincerely hope so!

flowerytaleofNewYork · 20/12/2007 14:28

Would it work without the pistachios? DH is fussy

pud1 · 20/12/2007 14:36

i did the chocolate chip cookeis and they were soooo good that i sat with oh and we at 12 between us in about 1 hour.

WaynettALotOfMincePies · 20/12/2007 14:43

Am PMSL at the very technical 'whack' and 'bung' terms - although Nigella could make even those sound sexy!

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs · 20/12/2007 14:48

Maidamess, you're in my head...!

..And did you also, while never washing your hands , stand well back from the blender so as not to splash your cashmere, fondly pat your grunting children on the head before popping out to fill the house with flowers and scent?

BuckBuckMcFate · 20/12/2007 14:54

A lovely friend gave me a beautifully wrapped parcel of this at playgroup this morning. At home, I hid in the kitchen so I wouldn't have to share with the dc and it was yummy!

BellaMummy · 20/12/2007 15:06

Can you get the disposable trays Nigella used in Tesco/Sainsburys??

saythatagain · 20/12/2007 15:29

I've just bought the ingedients for this (amongst other items for recipes from her book) and really looking forward to eating it. Where do you buy the pretty bags from Mrs Carrot? I.e can you get them from Tesco online! My mouth is watering!!!

gorgeousfeebie · 20/12/2007 15:37

can you please recommend which dark choc you used please going to make this at weekend.

saythatagain · 20/12/2007 15:42

i've bought Green & Blacks 70%

pagwatch · 20/12/2007 15:56

I made the ice cream cake with the bourbon biscuits and honey roast nuts and chocolate buttons for my Dh's birthday.
It was unbelievably easy.
It was also the richest/sweetest/fattest thing i have ever eaten and DH now thinks I am trying to kill him.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 20/12/2007 16:31

would making a tray out of several layers of tin foil work or would it rip and stick to the bottom of it??

LUCYKateallthemincepies · 20/12/2007 21:43

i got foil trays really cheap from a place called 'instore', is that the new name for poundstretcher? going to try this with dd at the weekend.

Crunchie · 20/12/2007 23:08

Pipey The point of foil trays is two fold
1 no washing up
2 so you can prise it out easily

It doean't stick but tray getting a solin flat lump out of a baking tray!! You need the foil to almost peel it off

BTW I used bendicks 70% choc as it was on special offer - dear MIL suggested 'those cocolate chips you get for cooking would be just as nice!' NOT

A trayful of teh stuff aint cheap, BUT I reckon I made 8 mini teachers pressies, plus favours for the xmas table of 8 for around £7, so good value IYKWIM

I am guess any nuts would do, but pistachios look so pretty.

BTW As I did nonoe of the cooking, bar a light stir, I did not wear a tight jumper, I was sexiliy envoloped in wyncette PJs thank you

Thank you for posting this. I'd seen Nigella make it on TV but had more or less forgotten about it before I spotted your post. My DS and I made it this morning (before school, it was so quick'n'easy). What a success! Everyone is going to get it for Christmas this year!

DixiePixie · 21/12/2007 10:48

Thinking of making this. Does anyone know how long the made fudge keeps for? Does it need to be fridged, or can it be stored at room temp?

hobnob · 21/12/2007 11:06

The blessed Nige recommends keeping it cold as I think it gets rather squidgy if kept at room temperature. She also says you can eat it straight from the freezer. This has the advantage of cleavage-revelation as you bend down to fish it out.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 21/12/2007 18:41

The reason I ask about the foil is that it's DD's birthday this weekend pplus we're having a crimbo party so I'm a bit tight on time to go and buy foil trays and I need to make them for sunday afternoon! Seriously - would making a homemade tray out of tin foil and then putting that in a baking tray work or will i end up with tiny bits of tin foil embedded in the fudge that I can't get out??

Heathcliffscathy · 21/12/2007 18:44

ah! where did you get your little bags with snowflakes mrs carrot! really need something like this for putting home made stuff in
