Black treacle uses

I buy black treacle for the Christmas cake. It keeps well so lasts a few years. But I'd rather use it up more quickly. DD cannot eat ginger so rules out gingerbread etc.

How else can I use it?

I made a ginger and treacle traybake the other week - lush. I think it was a Mary Berry one.

Nigella has a sticky toffee pudding recipe that has treacle in it which I also made (I love treacle things in the autumn and winter) - it was delicious.

Yes I did think I could do that . Just as well as people are still suggesting ginger cake recipes!!

in home made baked beans (Boston beans)

As a glaze for baked ham.

In toffee sauce to go with profiteroles or meringues.

In steamed treacle sponge pudding.

Drizzled over bananas & cream.

Drizzled over porridge.

Big spoonful in bread dough

I use it in a BBQ sauce for pulled pork but it doesn't use a huge quantity. If it's something you want I'll dig the recipe out as it's a homemade concoction of many ingredients based on about 10 different recipes combined in my brain and then written in the back of a cookbook...

It's also added to rye bread recipes

Thin it a little and use it to make a treacle swirl ice cream.

Treacle scones are good.

Thank you - I'm happy to give it a go for in my usual recipe but if you have time, would appreciate the recipe (ingredients would suffice unless there is something different in your method? )

Most ones you get are made with golden syrup, black treacle is much nicer

It makes a nice bedtime drink swirled into hot milk with a sprinkling of cinnamon. Even better with a slish of rum in it!

Just sub the treacle for the golden syrup and add a teaspoon of your spice of choice.

I marinate fillet beef in treacle before cooking.
