I'm making chicken cacciatore (from Olive magazine) and serving with roasted baby potatoes with olive oil and rosemary.

What veg shall I do?

TIA

ps. it's for a mid week, family birthday meal.

Tender stem broccoli and maybe some chunky buttered carrots?

Comedycook · 21/11/2021 18:58

Anything green.... broccoli, spinach or asparagus

StrawberryPi · 21/11/2021 18:59

Probably just a nice crisp green salad for me!

Hyperion100 · 21/11/2021 19:00

Griddled tenderstem broc and green beans.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/11/2021 19:05

asparagus, tender stem broccoli

pastabest · 21/11/2021 19:26

Brussel sprouts

waltzingparrot · 21/11/2021 19:39

Red cabbage and roasted butternut squash

MamaBearThius · 21/11/2021 19:53

Corn on the cob or tenderstem broccoli

Chewbecca · 21/11/2021 19:55

I’m team green too. Always go for English seasonal if possible which currently means tenderstem broccoli, maybe some leeks or asparagus.

Asparagus is not what I traditionally view as an English winter seasonal veg Grin

Did you mean brussel sprouts?

starfishmummy · 21/11/2021 20:01

Not roasted potatoes. It needs mash, polenta or crusty bread to soak up the sauce. Seasonal greens or a salad.

This would be my immediate choice. I like at least two colours in my veg
Chewbecca · 21/11/2021 20:37

Ouch, yeah, I meant NOT asparagus!

Chewbecca · 21/11/2021 20:37

Sprouts aren’t even ready yet

AnotherMansCause · 21/11/2021 20:47

Two of the following, pick different colours -
Cauliflower
Broccoli
Green beans
Carrots / baby carrots
Cabbage red or green

AnotherMansCause · 21/11/2021 20:48

Oh no sorry not cauliflower!

LuluBlakey1 · 21/11/2021 20:49

Cabbage and broccoli

ODFOgrinch · 21/11/2021 20:50

I love asparagus but it isn't t seasonal.

Steamed shredded Savoy cabbage with a drizzle of the herby oil from the spuds.

pastabest · 21/11/2021 20:58

Yes they are! I've been eating home grown sprouts for 6 weeks already.

Commercially grown British sprouts have also been in the shops for weeks.

Chewbecca · 21/11/2021 21:42

No sprouts in my local Waitrose yet

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/11/2021 06:35

Romanesco if you can find a decent sized one that doesn't break the bank! The most beautiful vegetable, and tastes nice too. Green or runner beans. Broccoli. Something green, anyway!

ragged · 22/11/2021 06:47

Anything, actually.
Broccoli, courgette, green beans & carrots are all safe bets.

JuneOsborne · 22/11/2021 06:49

Crispy kale would be our go to.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/11/2021 06:56

cavolo nero

Words · 22/11/2021 06:56

Steamed broccoli, and sprouts halved and fried in butter. Sprouts are definitely in season here.
