What is your favourite cake?

I am planning on baking a cake this weekend for friends. Not much of a baker and don't really like cake, so would appreciate opinions and any tried and tested recipes please.

Hands down a nice moist carrot cake!

I do love a carrot cake. Or a coffee and walnut cake.

A cafe near me does a Russian honey cake which is unbelievably good, but I've no idea how easy it is to make, or find a recipe for. The cafe owner makes it to her family recipe.

Coffee and walnut cake gets my vote!

I love coffee and walnut cake but know a lot of people who don't.

I love carrot cake too and that would have been my choice.

At the moment, a nice chocolate cake. I'm an odd one out here as I despise both carrot cake and coffee and walnut

I’m the same as bearlyactive. Hard to go wrong with a nice chocolate cake.

You can't beat a really good Victoria sponge.

Carrot cake and coffee walnut cakes are favourites here too!
I would say a victoria sponge is also very tasty and easier to make if you feel you don’t want something too challenging. It’s also a safe cake I reckon as everyone like a slice of victoria sponge cake, it’s less divisive!

Carrot cake…every single time!

I love this recipe! Everyone I’ve made it for has loved it too (well they said they did anyway…!)

I would go for this lemon drizzle cake. I am not a baker but have made this many times and it’s always a winner! Instead of lemon you can do lime or lemon and lime, orange, orange and lemon etc…

These raspberry and white chocolate blondies

So simple and so tasty.

1: Lemon drizzle
2: Carrot cake
3: Victoria sponge.

Chocolate fudge cake
Ginger fudge cake
Mocha fudge cake

I do a really nice chocolate and banana loaf cake or a date and orange cake which you can add pecans or walnuts to.

Apart from that, I'd do something which you're confident making - I made a lemon cake a few weeks ago and it was nice but not as nice as other cakes and I'm a competent baker!

You can't go wrong with a Victoria sponge in my opinion.

Fruit cake. With lots of cherries.

If not Victoria sponge then agreed with others, a nice chocolate cake, with icing. Ensure you don't make it too rich or too sickly (think this was the issue with my lemon cake, too much icing and a bit too sweet).

My fave cake is banana and toffee.

The only cake I actually like is carrot cake. It's got to be really moist though
