The recipe you bring out when you need ultimate comfort food, or to celebrate?

Mine is currently Dishoom chicken ruby and house black daal. Before that it was Korean double fried chicken.

Always on the lookout for a new blow-out recipe though!

Ultimate comfort food for me this year has been nigella's crab mac and cheese. The sauce is just so velvety and rich.

Ricekrispie22 · 14/09/2021 18:31

Truffle three-cheese macaroni www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/food/recipes/a549828/luxury-truffle-mac-and-cheese/

I've never been fussed about Mac and cheese, weirdly, though I do understand how it must be like crack to a cheese fan

Vincisgrassi by Simon Hopkinson.
So simple; I use whatever pasta shape I fancy, add a little truffle oil to bog-standard mushrooms, & have even used bacon if necessary.

Butter chicken using a Maunika Gowharden recipe. We fight for the leftovers, if there are any.

tubbylittletwat · 14/09/2021 21:43

My ultimate comfort food isn't at all luxurious but reminds me of being away from everything and everyone, camping in a soggy field (bliss). Instant mash, tinned hot dogs, and tinned tomatoes, and a fair amount of salt, all bunged in together.

Nofaffing · 14/09/2021 22:08

tartiflette, absolutely delicious and real comfort food.

MeltedCheeseonTop · 15/09/2021 12:57

Toad in the hole, Mashed potatoes, and a shed load of gravy!

HeronLanyon · 15/09/2021 12:59

Either tortiglioni bake with a lot of garlic and mozzarella. Confort I think hat I can make it blindfold(Ed), love it, have it rarely and always eat an awful lot.
Otherwise deep comfort is mashed potato with homemade onion gravy and lashings of butter and salt and pepper.

bananapumpkin · 15/09/2021 13:02

For me, comfort food has to be sweet!

I would go with my triple chocolate brownies - made with really good chocolate and duck eggs for extra richness.

ISpyCobraKai · 15/09/2021 13:06

Proper cassoulet or biryani.
I haven't made either since my daughter left home two years ago.
Its so pointless just for me.

Rajma Chawal (lit kidney beans and rice) but when I’m feeling extra down I put the rajma in urad (the black daal) and stir in a bit of cream. It is lush.

Vietnamese spring rolls, made with pork, prawns and crab and deep fried. Served with lettuce leaves, dipping sauce and a mountain of herbs. Or wiener schnitzel, either pork or veal, fried in lots of butter and served with cornichons, lemon wedges, new potatoes and salad.

ISpyCobraKai · 15/09/2021 18:47

I adore wiener schnitzel that would work just cooking for me too.

coodawoodashooda · 15/09/2021 21:10

Toast!

SnotsGotTheBoobies · 15/09/2021 21:16

Beef bourgignon with mash (or roast) potatoes, green beans and carrots.

coodawoodashooda · 16/09/2021 10:28

Yorkshire pudding.

Special occasion- new favourite recipe Steak tartines, Also love Persian food - layers of sauces made with yoghurt tahini pomegranate molasses preserved lemon picante tomato sauce pine nuts aubergine, sometime lamb mince, toasted pitta - feels like it takes all day though.
Comfort food - an intense tomato sauce with basil loads of chilli and a really good olive oil loads of parmigiana and linguine- silky and delicious, might even have a bit of garlic bread on the side.
Taste of home nostalgia- steak and chips - home made of course! With sauté onions 70’s style and mushrooms, served with salad cream and bread.

PurpleDaisies · 17/09/2021 07:34

Bosh buffalo cauliflower wings. I could eat them by the bucketful.

CreepingDeath · 17/09/2021 10:58

To celebrate I always love making pavlova, it feels decadent but it's really light and airy (so you can eat loads!).

Plus it gets slathered with whipped cream and whatever fruit is in season, yum!

Spiindoctor · 17/09/2021 16:28

Cottage pie - but best of all - the left overs fried up the next day.....

Frenchfancy · 17/09/2021 16:29

Beef Stroganoff made with filet steak and served with homemade pasta.

Failing that - toast.

katesbushh · 17/09/2021 20:25

Kedegree
Nobody else in this house likes it. Weirdos Grin

If I have the house to myself for dinner I always make it for myself.

katesbushh · 17/09/2021 20:25

Kedgeree even

Pasta and not rice? I can never decide which one is wrong.
