Do people cook the same meals every week

Hi everyone just wondering if people tend to cook the same meals every week or different. I find that i cook different meals but then end up disappointed if I don't like the recipe

No, I'd get very bored with the same meals every week! I have quite a few meals that I make fairly regularly, but one week is never the same as the next, and I often try new recipes. During these summer holidays we've sometimes had 'themed' weeks - e.g. all Jamaican recipes one week and all Scandinavian recipes the next.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 15/08/2021 19:46

No.

I have a reliable stable of recipes (roast - beef/lamb/pork/chicken, several curries - prawn with tomato, lamb, beef, pork and pineapple, flan, bolognaise, a couple of sausage dishes, some one-pot meals, noodles, a couple of pies, various dishes using game in season e.g. casseroles) and tend to ring the changes with those on random days of the week. Now and then I'll try something new, and sometimes it gets added to the list of staples and other times I wonder why the hell I bothered.

I tend to vary what we eat according to the seasons (no point making a suet pudding in August; no point eating asparagus out of season when the local stuff is cheap and good in season), how much DH is cooking, who is around and how busy I am.

I probably have 3 weeks worth of meals that I rotate plus new recipes now and again.

HappyWipings · 15/08/2021 19:50

My husband and I take turns , I cook my 7 favourite recipes and the next week he makes his. We do make new things sometimes , but in general the food shop is the same every other week.

LawnFever · 15/08/2021 19:52

No, we have usual meals that we’ll cook but often try new things, I’d get really bored making the same dinners every week

claret3189 · 15/08/2021 20:00

@lazylinguist ohhh that sounds really good i like the idea of themes.

I must be doing it wrong haha maybe i am finding the wrong recipes so they never make a return

No. We use Gusto so our meals are.different each week. To be honest I started using them because I was getting fed up of trying to think up new recipes each time and ended up sticking to the same thing. This way, I'm trying new things and there's no waste.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 15/08/2021 20:03

I have a core of staples. One of my DC is a bit fussy, and I can't be arsed to cook twice, so rely on a few favourites each week with a few different things. I probably have a good 20-30 "regular" meals.

Velcropaws · 15/08/2021 20:03

Yes and no! Eat seasonally but have a repertoire of approx 20 dishes or so for each season. Depends on who is at home too: one teen seems obsessed with eating the same three dishes atm, all involving rice and arabiatta sauce Confused

Maybe you're just more discerning in your tastes than me! I don't very often cook something new and not like it tbh.

hopeishere · 15/08/2021 20:22

Yes. I hate cooking, meal planning and food shopping. And have a house full of fussy eaters.

claret3189 · 15/08/2021 20:58

@liveatcityhall oh i want to try gusto is it worth it

OP posts:
Sexnotgender · 15/08/2021 20:59

I have around 20 meals that I rotate.

claret3189 · 15/08/2021 21:00

Oh no fussy eaters must be hard
Some people cook like 4 meals in one go don't they.

We probably have the same meals over a two week period and I’ll often try cooking something new but it’s often hot or miss whether we like it enough to have again

Most definitely. They have some fantastic world foods, healthy food, gluten free, vegan and vegetarian. I have a discount code that gets you 60% of your first box and 30% off your second. Message me and I'll pass it on for you (my first name is part of the code so I'd rather message it to you if that's ok?)

coodawoodashooda · 15/08/2021 21:10

Try not to.

overwork · 15/08/2021 21:50

We get a veg box and our meals are based on whatever is in it, we have a few favourites but very rarely have the same thing regularly. Tuesday's (veg box day) was a highlight in this house during lockdown Grin

AdoraBell · 15/08/2021 21:54

No, it would drive me crazy.

GromblesofGrimbledon · 15/08/2021 22:35

We have staple favourites that I mix up with new things now and again when I fancy trying something different.

We always faithfully return to:

  • Chilli, either with rice or with nachos/tacos, and always with homemade guacamole.
  • Lasagne
  • Mince and tatties or haggis and tatties
  • Homemade soups with sourdough bread
  • Cullen skink
  • Baked potato with tuna salad
  • Salmon or trout with potatoes and greens done various ways
  • Chicken or salmon risotto
  • Egg fried rice and stir fry
  • Various types of curries
  • Chicken or haggis pies and mash
  • Tuna pasta
  • Spaghetti bolognese

We often eat the same thing two days in a row as I make enough to have leftovers.

somewhereovertherain · 15/08/2021 22:38

We've done a mixture of hello fresh and gusto to mix it up. Usually only when we can get discounted.

somewhereovertherain · 15/08/2021 22:39

I have 8 free hello fresh boxes if anyone wants them.

lannistunut · 15/08/2021 22:41

We have staples but then these change as we get a veg box so the veg changes> We also go through phases where we really like something but then go off it again. Our cooking is very seasonal I think.

We menu plan but e.g. once a week we have 'salads' which can be completely different week to week.

Our menu plan will say 'curry' and then we find a recipe or just do a basic one.

Georgyporky · 16/08/2021 10:57

Absolutely not.
I was brought up to know it was Tuesday because we had lamb chops.

I'll try anything once, & I'm constantly trying new ingredients & recipes, not always successfully!

Knittingupastorm · 16/08/2021 11:36

I have maybe 20 recipes I do, but to be honest there are a couple that will feature pretty much every week (some sort of tomato and mince thing such a bolognese, lasagne or chilli will be one, plus a creamy chicken thing that my toddler will absolutely wolf down). But I try a new recipe every couple of weeks I’d guess.
