What's your favourite thing to bake?

I always bake sweet rather than savoury - got a shocking sweet tooth! Grin

DH got me a cake display stand for Christmas which I LOVE but it makes me sad to see it empty, so while I'm furloughed and have some spare time I'm baking quite a lot.

Usually do a Victoria sponge, or chocolate sponge with fresh cream, but have done blueberry muffins today which the kids have enjoyed. Made banana and Nutella loaf last week which was popular too.

Coffee and walnut cake 😁

mrstea301 · 06/02/2021 18:39

Peanut butter brownies - bbc website recipe! 👌👌👌

longtompot · 06/02/2021 18:40

Lemon drizzle or sticky ginger cake, like the Jamaican Ginger cake you can buy, are my go to cakes.

breadfortea · 06/02/2021 18:48

Bakewell tart, with generous amounts of jam.

minmooch · 06/02/2021 18:53

Banana cake
Madeira cake
Pear and frangipani tart
Steamed treacle tart pudding

Jemimatheragdoll · 06/02/2021 18:58

Probably white chocolate cheesecake, millionaire shortbread and brownies.

In fact I love baking cakes of any flavour. Sadly dh is diabetic, no dc's currently at home & can't see the dgc's atm so no baking going on here except for the odd cheese scone!

Meredithgrey1 · 06/02/2021 19:00

Carrot cake

iklboo · 06/02/2021 19:03

Lemon or lime tart - I've got a really simple but delicious recipe and it's a big hit.

Cotswoldmama · 06/02/2021 19:07

Brownies, we do batch a week! My son has them in his lunchbox. We like to pad them out with different biscuits to make them really thick. We used cut up Oreos or bourbons and sometimes penguins and some white choc chip 😋

OneKeyAtATime · 06/02/2021 19:08

Tarte tatin

Friendless00 · 06/02/2021 19:10

We love carrot cake but the DC love Cinnamon roll cake (check out fitwaffle on Instagram) every single day the DC are sending me screenshots of things from her page to make them!

Greenevalley · 06/02/2021 19:10

Profiteroles with quick chocolate sauce.
My dc would beg me to make extras when they were young if we had dinner guests. They loved eating them for breakfast!

TierFourTears · 06/02/2021 19:15

Jane's patisserie New York Cooking - choc chip or triple chocolate.

BBC good food ultimate chocolate cake.

DS1 likes millionaires shortbread but with a chocolate chip cookie in place of the shortbread Envy - not envy

DS2 likes Millies Cookies (BBC good food)

Well?! Don't hold out!
motherstongue · 06/02/2021 19:29

Oh I love a good baking session!
If I need something quick (to go with a cuppa) it will be scones, drop scones or cookies as they all take about 25 minutes from start to on the plate.

If it’s a planned treat then I like a fruit loaf (lovely recipe I have for exotic fruits and made with coconut milk, lush), a sponge cake (lemon drizzle or chocolate or carrot cake)
My DS ALWAYS wants Millionaire Shortbread or cheesecake. I indulge him when he’s home from Uni (which is all the time at the moment so he’s being rationed).

yearinyearout · 06/02/2021 19:33

Carrot cake, I use the primrose bakery recipe and it's delicious.

Turnedouttoes · 06/02/2021 19:33

I tried the lemon drizzle recipe on Jane’s Patisserie last night and it’s quite possibly the best I’ve ever made.
I also very highly rate her mini egg blondies but I’ve had to stop making those as I couldn’t stop eating them!

iklboo · 06/02/2021 19:49

Argh poo, @Mookie81 I thought I'd posted it!

Here you go - I usually make my own sweet shortcrust pastry. If I'm making the lemon one I put a layer of lemon curd on the base before adding the filling.

Bread, actually. It always comes out well. My cakes can be hit and miss. I need to try out a cake recipe a couple of times normally.

I also like making biscuits and brownies, but don't really like eating them Confused.

lazylinguist · 06/02/2021 20:17
