What's your favourite thing to bake?

I always bake sweet rather than savoury - got a shocking sweet tooth! Grin

DH got me a cake display stand for Christmas which I LOVE but it makes me sad to see it empty, so while I'm furloughed and have some spare time I'm baking quite a lot.

Usually do a Victoria sponge, or chocolate sponge with fresh cream, but have done blueberry muffins today which the kids have enjoyed. Made banana and Nutella loaf last week which was popular too.

What's your favourite thing to bake?

Oh yes, that's a good cake

@iklboo

Argh poo, *@Mookie81* I thought I'd posted it!

Here you go - I usually make my own sweet shortcrust pastry. If I'm making the lemon one I put a layer of lemon curd on the base before adding the filling.

LEMON TART RECIPE

Thank you Grin.

Hmm chocolate Guinness cake you say, I may have to try that....

Also fancy doing a yummy cheesecake some time soon!

That does sound lovely!

I used to make one of Nigella's chocolate cakes which was all ground almonds and olive oil; no flour or dairy fat! I used to convince myself it was healthier, but probably not.

Anyway, it was damned delicious! Really recommend that.

Texas sheet cake - so simple and so yummy with a soft crumb and fudgy topping. Second would be blueberry yoghurt cake. Third would be apple pie, and fourth would be a tarte tropezienne (essentially a brioche with a whipped cream middle and Pearl sugar topping).

LegendDairy · 07/02/2021 22:53

Lemon poppyseed yoghurt loaf cake.

DisgruntledPelican · 07/02/2021 22:57

Lemon shortcake is a recent fave because I can do small batches. Usual faves are Nigella’s chocolate chip cookies and her buttermilk Victoria sandwich cake. Lorraine Pascal’s brownies are also amazing.

Stupidusernamefaff · 07/02/2021 23:01

Chocolate expression tray bake - it’s SO good!

Stupidusernamefaff · 07/02/2021 23:02

That should’ve been ‘expresso’ not ‘expression’!!

stilllovingmysleep · 07/02/2021 23:04

I often make Nigella's lemon drizzle cake from domestic goddess
Also her chocolate cloud cake
Still on the Nigella theme: her granny boyd biscuits are great

Huginamugg · 07/02/2021 23:08

Carrot cake
Banoffee
Pineapple and coconut scones
Malteser/crunchie squares.

Gobbeldegook · 07/02/2021 23:16

Gooey quad chocolate cookies. They are amazing. 5 minutes to mix and 9 minutes in the oven.
Literally eating heaven.
So bad but so so so good.
Fuck.
I'm starving.
🤤🤤🤤

Labobo · 07/02/2021 23:22

coffee and walnut cake or almond and raspberry cake. Also Jamie Oliver chocolate brownies which are the best brownies ever.

ODFOx · 07/02/2021 23:25

I have a savoury tooth rather than sweet so: garlic and Rosemary focaccia, Cornish pasties, sausage rolls, cheese and onion rolls, butter pies, corned beef and onion pasties, pizza.

Fillybuster · 07/02/2021 23:26

@UnshakenNeedsStirring would you be able to share recipes for both of those please? I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect cardamom cake for ages, and am always a sucker for a good lemon/rose/polenta combo!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 08/02/2021 08:16

For those who make Bakewell tart could you please share the recipe?

I'm not very adventurous. Regular bakes are cupcakes dipped in jam and then coconut or sprinkles! Fruit tea loaf and carrot cake.

lazylinguist · 08/02/2021 08:27

@LifeInAHamsterWheel this is the recipe I use. It's very easy and a bit rustic-looking!

hanka · 08/02/2021 08:29

Marble bundt cake. Family favourite, every since I was a child (in a different century, in a different life)- always brings back nostalgic memories of sunny Sunday afternoons....

hanka · 08/02/2021 08:30

Ever! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Monday morning!

@TierFourTears @Gobbeldegook

Do you think the cookies you posted about are similar to Ben’s Cookies? I’ve been looking for a copycat recipe for ages but the ones I’ve found on t’internet don’t hit the mark!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 08/02/2021 08:44

Thanks @lazylinguist my DH adores it and last time I tried one he complained it wasn't almondy enough. It wasn't! There was a small amount of almond extract in the mix.

Does anyone have a recipe for a very almondy tart or bake?!

@GeorgiePorgieOrgie I don't know I've not had those. But they're better than dominos cookies. I used the BBC good food vintage cookies recipe and kept modifying it till I got it just right

Sorry, never had Ben's cookies.
