I do a lovely beef stew with carrots, leaks and beans but I fancy doing something different. I used to have a lovely tomatoey South African stew recipe too but I can't find it now. Any ideas for a change?

This was popular in our house last winter. A bit of prep, marinade for a couple of hours, then shiver it in the oven. Very easy overall.

Sorry, it's one of those recipes where there's a load of waffle and the recipe is right down at the bottom.

Shove! Not shiver.

FippertyGibbett · 13/11/2020 14:05

Make a steak pie.

I was about to suggest Bo Kho, I use the recipe from woks of life website, it's great.

Stroganoff (preferably with lots of fresh dill).

Toilenstripes · 13/11/2020 14:53

Goulash is lovely!

MirandaMarple · 13/11/2020 16:41

Stifado
Use for ragu/chilli instead of mince
Beef massaman curry

Some good ideas, thanks. Not heard of stifado but will definitely give it a go!

Put it back together as a complex 3D jigsaw puzzle?

AdoraBell · 13/11/2020 20:14

I used to do beef and red wine casserole, haven’t made it in years and now I’m salivating.

Te most famous tomatoey stew recipe for south africa is a tomato bredie, is this what you meant? But it's usually done with lamb, not beef. Cooked with mild spices like cardoon and cinnamon? I do have a wonderful recipe for a version of this if you're interested.
andyoldlabour · 14/11/2020 13:17

Chilli con carne, it will be much better than mince.

CoolYourBeansMySon · 14/11/2020 16:35

That’s it! Yes please @SpaceOP

I like a really plain stew that brings me back to my childhood - literally just beef, onions, carrots and potatoes cooked in water til it’s all mush. Eat with plenty of salt and pepper (white if possible).

MollynAlly · 14/11/2020 20:19

Beef stew and dumplings yummm

Nat6999 · 15/11/2020 05:09
