Gousto standards going down the pan?

Had my first gousto delivery since may this week and what a disappointment. Flimsy spring onions, ingredients missing, tiny garlic clove....

Reeeally scrimping and becoming a rip off xx

It's the same good quality as ever for me, never had missing ingredients and been a regular customer for yonks.

Handsnotwands · 04/11/2020 19:22

May be there’s having to cut back after distributing quite so many freebies to influencers?

Meowza74 · 04/11/2020 19:34

I'm finding them great, but they are stingy on the garlic. I always add 2 more garlic cloves than the recipe says.

Loved the Turkish lamb with aubergine yoghurt this week.

CorianderLord · 04/11/2020 19:57

Ours wasn't bad but a few missing bits

Ineverdidmind · 04/11/2020 20:01

Ours have been fine except the ginger was very dry and manky, but I reported it on the app and they refunded a couple of quid for it.

pineapplepalmtree · 04/11/2020 20:03

generally find them fine but they do give you instant credit off your next box if there's anything missing or not right -just report it on the app.

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 04/11/2020 20:22

We've been having the veggie options recently as cutting down meat in the week so.i think it feels more expensive.

The mushroom hoisin wraps this week were fantastic xx

I'm finding myself reporting missing ingredients more often than not these days and I don't think they have ever sent me a tomato that hadn't been squashed to hell in the box.

My biggest problem with them at the moment is finding four recipes we all like. I'm considering giving Hello Fresh a try.

IndigoApple · 04/11/2020 20:34

Quality had been fine for us but husband complaining cos I've recently accidentally ordered from their health range without realising eg. Joe Wicks chicken with coleslaw and no carbs the other week then tonight's prawn thing a bit too healthy as well. I need to pay more attention!

Incrediblytired · 04/11/2020 20:35

Yeah, we stopped having them when they started charging extra for steak/fish etc. We never had veggie options as I felt they weren’t good value for money and avoided fish as it was always cheapo basa.
I did really enjoy them though so if money was no object I would still have them.

We do alternate weeks. Works well but I know sooner or later I'll forget to skip one and we'll end up with both and too much food to eat before it goes off!

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 04/11/2020 20:40

So the fish options aren't that great either?

FlyingFlamingo · 04/11/2020 20:41

I think that as a vegetarian they are too expensive -£35 a box, so approx £9 a meal for tomato pasta/cheese toasties/stir fry is a bit much really. They’ve also fallen down the ‘meat substitutes’ hole - I do occasionally eat veggie sausages but I would rather use tofu or just vegetable based meals. The last few weeks offerings have been a bit meh really so I’ve been cancelling them. I also dislike all the extra packaging - eg. a sachet of vinegar when I have a full bottle on the counter!

starlingsintheslipstream · 04/11/2020 20:46

We have the box of 4 meals for 4, always veggie, and I think it's reasonable value for us if you choose the recipes carefully. However like FlyingFlamingo says there's too many meat substitutes of late and Charlie Bingham ready meals certainly don't appeal, at those prices, so we've skipped quite a few boxes recently.

Heyha · 04/11/2020 20:50

I don't think they are good value for veggies...however I did fall into the Hello Fresh trap the other day, you pay up front for your first box and only then get to see the menu options, lots of which are simple pasta dishes that you could knock up with stuff from the corner shop. Managed to get it cancelled and refunded by quoting distance selling cooling off period! I like the Gousto recipes but I thought hello fresh choices weren't a patch on them.

NMS90 · 04/11/2020 20:52

I have found myself skipping boxes recently as I just don't like the sound of many of the recipes which isn't an issue I've had before... thinking of giving Hello Fresh a go as we have been with Gousto about 18 months now and not sure if it's them going downhill or just me getting bored!

SaveloyDip · 04/11/2020 20:59

That is exactly what is putting me off trying Hello Fresh - a lot of money to spend when you don't know what they have to offer.
beautyboxaddict · 04/11/2020 21:08

I’ve used both and Gousto have been better for me in terms of variety and quality.

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 04/11/2020 21:11

Yes, what's with the Charlie Bingham meals? I've I wanted to buy them overpriced dinger meals then I'd go to Tesco xx

I've thought the last couple of times the chicken breasts were properly scrimped on! It's like they've got a full breast and cut it in half to make 2 portions

Anise7438 · 04/11/2020 21:14

I just find hello fresh have hardly any choice and the meals are just bland. Gusto good choice, flexible as you don't need to subscribe and the kids like gousto but less so hello fresh

KeyLimePies · 04/11/2020 21:22

I’ve used Gousto, which I liked, and I recently got to try Hello Fresh for a few weeks through an offer with my bank. I was quite impressed (not enough to carry on full price at the moment though).

The company who have let me down is Abel & Cole. Stale bread and very short shelf life veg with the last order I had in April, really not up to their usual standard. I was really looking forward to a lovely fresh, crusty hedgehog loaf and the one delivered was days old 😢. I haven’t shopped with them since.

SaveloyDip · 05/11/2020 20:07

Has anyone managed to make chips following the Guosto timings and had them turn out nice and crispy - mine usually take 3x the amount of oven time stated.

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 05/11/2020 20:36

I've done wedges before which needed longer too

Our Gousto week has been disappointing so far. A joe wicks veg "stew" which was just tomatoes and onion and pepper- I added kidney beans and it was still crap , spooky Halloween "pie" which was squash and crepe grajcbe type sauce with a baked puff pastry pumpkin (that you had to carve- we had rectangles!) and couldn't be arsed with tonight's cauliflower balti - too much effort but I'll do it tomorrow. And yes the chips took half an hour not 20 minutes and my ginger was shrivelled and garlic clove both tiny and crushed
