Had my first gousto delivery since may this week and what a disappointment. Flimsy spring onions, ingredients missing, tiny garlic clove....

Reeeally scrimping and becoming a rip off xx

I generally like Gousto but the ingredient quality is often a let down. I’ve recently had mouldy garlic and ginger, floppy spring onions, missing ingredients. Very frustrating in the middle of cooking. They are good at giving credit when they mess up though.

@SaveloyDip

I'm finding myself reporting missing ingredients more often than not these days and I don't think they have ever sent me a tomato that hadn't been squashed to hell in the box.

My biggest problem with them at the moment is finding four recipes we all like. I'm considering giving Hello Fresh a try.

I've found the gousto food to be much better quality than hello fresh but it's more expensive so it should be really. We tend to get 75/25 hf or gousto over the month.

I’ve been getting gousto again recently as I fell into a trap of cooking the same meals over and over again and it’s quite good to get meal inspiration and to have a varied menu without thinking about it. I’ve liked all the meals except one and found them tasty so far, the only meal I didn’t like was the 10 min smoky Spanish garlic prawns. Ingredients wise i do think they’re pretty stingy with meat portions, probably because they’re the expensive bit. They always load up on large carb portions and I’d prefer more protein and less of the carbs. Not had any crap veg yet either thankfully!

We cancelled ours as we found the meat had gone really downhill. We ended up throwing some of it and re buying our own in order to make the recipes which is a complete waste. A few times I had to complain they’d left things out or that packets of prawns were open and had leaked etc. Didn’t rate it at all.

See I ordered the same stew polka but liked it - it came to serve with a rocket salad, goats cheese, pumpkin seeds iirc and the whole thing together was great.

I particularly like Gousto for Chinese meals, Hello Fresh much plainer and less interesting. Haven’t had quality issues with either.

Here’s a 50% off Gousto code if anyone reading wants to try them - Gousto

I use hello fresh but am getting fed up with the increasing amount of premium meals on offer.
I always use garlic puree (next to the tomato puree in supermarket) instead of their fresh garlic though. Lifes too short!

I've just cancelled hello fresh, had missed ingredients 3 weeks on the bounce and the veggies are looking sadder and sadder each bag.

QueenPaws · 07/11/2020 09:35

@Janaih I do the same with garlic!

I'm going to make a veggie pasty that was a recipe put in for lunch. Was so underwhelmed withy box from last week.
