Now that I've mastered instant pot porridge on a delayed start - How do you eat yours? What do you have on/mixed into it.

I'm bored of banana and blueberries.

TartanMarbled · 11/11/2019 21:55

Nutella and (defrosted) frozen berries

Shannith · 11/11/2019 22:07

Unsweetened almond milk. Raisins, chopped nuts, cinnamon and frozen chopped banana. Trust me on the banana!

Peel and chop bananas and stick in a freezer bag to use each day.

Also add fridge cold apple and am now going to try carrot. Can't believe I have never thought of that.

The above is also lovely popped mixed in the ridge the night before and eaten with a dollop if full fat Greek yogurt. It's so good, it's like having pudding. I do sometimes have this as pudding in the evening.

Shannith · 11/11/2019 22:08

If you pop it in the fridge it's even more exciting.

ArDali1 · 12/11/2019 05:34

Honey and cinnamon.
Mashed banana and cinnamon.
Peanut butter and a drizzle of honey
Chocolate powder (hot chocolate type) for chocolate porridge

HeronLanyon · 12/11/2019 05:40

Homemade apple sauce (with ginger) - I do big cook up and freeze in paper cups.
Blackberries - picked each year and frozen.
Toasted seeds/nuts mix. Pumpkin seeds are esp good in porridge.
Honey.
Rhubarb and ginger compote (frozen)
I have a few days a year when I do my ‘porridge fruit’ prep. Generally not organised Or a planner about food other than this.

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/11/2019 06:23

I seriously need to up my porridge game Shock

Passion fruit is good, too.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 12/11/2019 06:52

My current favourite is making it with chocolate milk (almond or oat), and topped with some dried cranberries.

eurochick · 12/11/2019 07:12

I've just had my first bowl of the winter. Made with chocolate almond milk, with dates, chopped hazelnuts and maple syrup.

3luckystars · 12/11/2019 07:20

Well, recently I had hot berries on mine and it was AMAZING!! Like a dessert.

I recreated it at home and put some frozen berries in a pot and let them cook for a few minutes while the porridge was cooking. Then I poured them over the top. It was savage.

I have tried to recreate other porridge at home with cocoa nibs etc and they are never the same. The berries though, were really great. I did add sugar to it though.

Cherrypi · 12/11/2019 07:39

Mixed dried fruit and cinnamon then top with evaporated milk.
Going to try peanut butter tomorrow.

MadnessInMethod · 12/11/2019 07:44

Wow loads to try, thanks everyone. I'm going shopping later to stock up!

Dark treacle /blackstrap molasses. About half a teaspoonful. I don't have much of a sweet tooth though.
I also like a few raspberries (fresh or frozen) mixed in, mashed up with it in the last few minutes of cooking to make it go all pink & jammy. I usually sprinkle a few cacao nibs on top if I have the raspberries. Yum.

The carrot cake flavour porridge sounds really good.

Stumpedasatree · 12/11/2019 10:03

@MadnessInMethod how do you do the delayed start on the IP? I've never used that function!

I like cinnamon, sultanas, berries (fresh or frozen), chia seeds and salted almond butter in mine. Also toasted coconut is amazing, just dry fry it on saute for a few mins before you add everything for the porridge.

Stumpedasatree · 12/11/2019 10:05

And mine aren't toppings. I cook it altogether so it all mixes in perfectly.

Crake · 12/11/2019 10:37

I go a bit mad with my morning porridge.
I add cacoa nibs, gogi berries, coconut flakes ☺️ that's for flavour.
To feel like I'm being healthy I add sunflower seeds and chia seeds.

It's a full meal! 😅

Sammysquiz · 12/11/2019 12:01

I’ve never tried making porridge in the Instant Pot - does it taste the same as when it’s made on the hob?

MadnessInMethod · 12/11/2019 12:15

@Sammysquiz I think it's a bit creamier but that's because I've mixed my oats and milk/water the night before.

It's just handy doing it in the pot with the delayed start, I do a large bowl, it's cooking while were all waking up and getting showered and then we can all take out our own portion as and when we get downstairs.

Sammysquiz · 12/11/2019 12:18

Thanks, sounds great! Am going to try it tonight Grin

twilightcafe · 12/11/2019 12:19

A teaspoon of marmalade and crushed cardamom seeds.

ohmysoul · 12/11/2019 12:22

Chopped apple and pear with cinnamon.
Raspberries and blackberries.
Peanut butter and strawberries.
Nutella or dark chocolate chips.
Stewed plums and a tiny amount of nutmeg.
Double cream and demerara sugar.
Banana, chopped dates and sunflower seeds.

MustardScreams · 12/11/2019 12:25

Chopped pecans & dried figs mixed in, maple syrup drizzled on top.

Frozen blueberries, sliced banana, big splidge of almond/cashew butter.

Chocolate chips! Dd thinks Christmas has come early when we have this. You can get lovely dark ones with much less sugar in.

haggisaggis · 12/11/2019 12:26

I prep porridge the night before, putting 1 cup rolled oats and 2 cups milk in a metal bowl. 2 cups water goes in the IP pot and then put bowl in on trivet. Set cooking time for 6 mins on HP and delay cooking until the next morning. (Usually around 7 hours delay). Works well for us.

averythinline · 13/11/2019 09:47

For chocolate just some cocoa gives the impact.. use something like green n blacks dark organic
Cocoa nibs also give texture...plus some chopped nuts
Organic Live yoghurt with/without honey to serve -has got the kids back into porridge (non fruit eaters)
