I’m nearly 37 years old and I’ve never had marmite.

How is best to try it?

Tiny scraping on very buttery toast.

ChippyMinton · 04/08/2019 13:24

That, with scrambled egg on top.

Or whirled through pasta with a knob of butter.

In a cucumber sandwich.

ChippyMinton · 04/08/2019 13:25

On a buttered cream cracker.

With peanut butter.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 04/08/2019 13:26

On toast Smile

BrassicaBabe · 04/08/2019 14:11

Put it in a box. Wrap it up. Post it to the moon Grin

MsPavlichenko · 04/08/2019 14:20

Soften butter. Put some marmite in ( experiment with how much). Whip together. Put in fridge to set a bit. Have on hot toast.

AdaColeman · 04/08/2019 14:23

On toast is the way to go. Next, you should try Gentleman's Relish, also on toast.

DeepfriedPizza · 04/08/2019 14:47

@BrassicaBabe Grin

Ok, toast seems to be the way to go. Is it eaten for breakfast?

I will not be trying gentleman’s relish because it sounds like jizz

On toast anytime, we do it topped with a poached egg for breakfast, but you must spread thinly at first of you are a Marmite newbie.

Lauraloop1516 · 04/08/2019 14:58

I agree - a scraping on buttery thick white toast. Can't beat it. I always add a teaspoon to beefy things like bolognaise, chilli - even added some to a batch of French onion soup I made this week. Dh can't stand the thought of it on toast, but it's very liberal when adding it to the above recipes! It's a fab thing to have in the cupboard.

RedElephants · 04/08/2019 15:02

Hot crumpets, butter, marmite then cheese under the grill till cheese is melting, then a spoonful or two of hot baked beans on top..yum 😊

Lauraloop1516 · 04/08/2019 15:04

@redelephants - oooh, yes to hot crumpets! Only discovered this quite recently. Lashings of salted butter and marmite - perfect Grin

mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 04/08/2019 15:05

Straight out of the jar on a teaspoon.... I love marmite

JellyTeapot · 04/08/2019 15:15

On thickly buttered white toast with some slices of strong cheddar. Mmmmm, off to see if there's any bread left...

Lauraloop1516 · 04/08/2019 15:18

@jellyteapot - I've just fished crumpets out of the freezer. Couldn't resist Wink

AdaColeman · 04/08/2019 15:38

If you don't try it DeepfriedPizza you will never know what you are missing! Wink

Have you eaten deep fried pizza?

DeepfriedPizza · 04/08/2019 16:03

Yep, I’ve eaten deep fried pizza many times. And battered deep fried pizza. Delicious

I’ll buy a jar tomorrow and let you all know

Herocomplex · 04/08/2019 16:06

I like thin white bread, thickish cold butter and marmite. Yum.

Holenewme · 04/08/2019 16:08

Toast a crumpet. Put enough butter on to fill all the crumpet holes. Spread thin layer of marmite on top of the butter lake. Eat while it’s still hot. Repeat until you run out of crumpets or have a heart attack.

Leakinglikeacolander · 04/08/2019 17:19

Seriously there is such a thing as battered deep fried pizza 🍕

DeepfriedPizza · 04/08/2019 19:35

Yep. Well, there is in the west of Scotland. It’s called a pizza crunch

OP posts:
MsPavlichenko · 04/08/2019 20:03

Can confirm a pizza crunch. Hugh Jackman has a taste in a chip shop in Clydebank. I read about it, and then he spoke about it at at least one of his Glasgow gigs. I heard him!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 04/08/2019 20:06

I like to microwave baking potatoes until almost cooked through then slice them in half, scoop out the potato and mash with butter, cheese and marmite, then put back into the skins, top with more cheese and bake in the oven until the cheese is crispy. Perfection.

Hoppinggreen · 04/08/2019 20:08

Toast with white bread and real butter bit only a scraping of marmite
My dc made it for me last mother’s day and smothered it - it removed the lining of my mouth ( had to force it down as they were so pleased with themselves)

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/08/2019 20:33

Gentleman’s relish is divine, I’m allergic to cows milk so I can’t have it but it is worth trying.
